1970 aluminum slotted wheel questions

I would try to buy a set of 4 matching wheels-either from ebay or a private owner. All wheel companies made changes to the wheels during a run. Sometimes the outer lip is a different shape, lug nut area ids different etc. You might find 2 wheels but might not find another 2 that match.

Might even consider a company like akh wheels but they are expensive.

Question of the year 2 experts. What would qualify and what would not for year two. I have a high resolution picture of my car in 1970 and I could blow up the wheel. They look polished in the pictures.

Original direct bolt pattern Ansens were not polished but only came in a machine finish.The Ansen Sprint II which were unilug came out polished I think they came out in 1970/1971.

Post a larger pic of your car and we might be able to tell by looking at the cap for sure. It appears the cap has a black center and with them being polished would lead to them being the Ansen Sprint II. No other wheel that I can recall had a black face center cap. ET's had dark green but I can tell by the pics they re not ET's.

Sam Griffith has them on his Yenko Deuce.

This 57 has Ansen Sprint II on it and on the side view looks like your wheels.

I believe this to be correct as well. I have a set of NOS Ansen Sprints and they are <span style="text-decoration: underline">not</span> polished. When I bought them they were in the original boxes but when the man shipped them to me he cut the boxes up and used original boxes as packing material. I will never understand why people do some of the things they do. here is one of the wheels. I stuck them all in extra boxes I had. This one just needs a good wipe down and its ready to go!

That site is very good and my head is now spinning. Lots of good information. Ansen had some competition by 1970. My car is a fully documented olds 442 w-30 convertible ordered with poverty caps. The car just debuted at the MCACN show in Rosemont. One month after it was ordered the first owner replaced the rims with the slotted mags. The car was delivered in California March 1970 so it looks like Ansen would be the first choice but the other brands would be correct too. Got this below from the site you provided.

All the early Slots had the bolt on caps till about 1970 depending on brand, Ansen in the 70s offered both bolt on and a metal pop-in on their Sprint IIs, also Ansen offered them polished and in direct bolt and a mult-pattern in the 70s

Here are the vintage photos from April 1970 car delivered to the first owner march 1970 so he probably didn't keep the poverty caps on for a week or two.

I have a set of 14x7 polished Appliance that I'm putting on my 72 Supreme this spring. Thanks for the pics. After seeing your pics I pulled the trigger on them when I saw them listed locally. I wasn't sure how the 14's would look vs. 15's given the tire options for 14 inch tires these days. I would still like to find L60's for the back...no luck yet. Beautiful restore.
