I was at the points meet at Englishtown a few weeks ago and we were sitting around MacNeishs trailer and there were a couple long time Stock/SS racers saying it was a done deal. NHRA has been sold and the new owners want to run the programs like NASCAR. Qualify on Saturday and run on Sunday. Will only be the PRO catagories. All Sportsman racers will run at their own type events like the SportNationals and like The Dutch Classics. They are presently building a new track in Charlotte. I was told that the family is just ready to sell the facility in Mohnton. Lex Dudas had no comment when these racers asked him about it.

Just in the last couple years they eliminated the Sportsman guys from how many events, and you need an atlas and a decoder ring to figure out when/where they're gonna run?! I won't even get into how the Sportsman guys are treated by the tracks...the writing has been on the wall, but nobody wanted to read it. Let NHRA have their 'PRO' racers, and let someone who gives a rip pick up the Sportsman classes and do it RIGHT. Then let the NHRA dig into their pockets when the gate & entries from the 'little guys' isn't there to help pay for "The Show" any more... GOD BLESS Wally Parks, but he'll be better off *not* seeing this garbage... |

The sportsman classes were just being used as "filler" for the slow times between the advertised show. It's time to stop being the fill in boys.

Sportsman racing was alive and well this past weekend at Columbus Sport Nats. Really good car count but very few spectators as usual,no publicity as usual and not really marketed to spectators. If MG was sold could it have been HD Partners (Direct TV) buying it? They got Indy, Columbus,Gainesville and Atlanta in the NHRA deal and maybe want more. HDP wants to make it a NASCRAP clone and after they finish with it NHRA will get it back for a song or that will be the end. I'd welcome sportsman only racing but it will be almost total financially supported by the racers

IHRA has shown that there's merit in the Sportsman/Comp ranks...they only have a fraction of the operating capital that NHRA does, yet they get it done and then some! IHRA has been stealing the thunder on the non-PRO cars for the last few years, but NHRA has pretty much handed it to them on a platter.

I think IHRA just had a Mountain Motor Pro Stock race in Maryland. Winner $50.000. I would have loved to have seen that. There were even Ford Pro Stocks. Kinda like the old days. If NHRA screws the little guys even more who's gonna pay for the big boys
