IMO, because of the high prices, participating at one of the major auctions has become very much like high stakes poker. One had better know the rules and "how the game is played" before hand. Depending on the house to look out for you, or learning as you go could be a very expensive lesson.

Wow, I'm sure getting tired of all the speculation, blame and rumor about the auctions. Tom has it right - just know what you're doing. Nothing really changed this year. The fake cars, dishonest people - they've been there before. The article referenced on the CRG site that claims many cars are owned by B-J, and you are guaranteed 3 minutes on the block, etc. is a bunch of crap written by someone who probably hasn't been there, let alone been a buyer or consignor.
The auction company has nothing to do with the quality of the car, it's provinence or it's description. The description is written by the owner and read on the block. The contract specifically spells out the rules. Some owners simply believe rules don't apply to them...... B-J made it very obvious this year that it was backing down bids. That is the wrong way to run an auction, in my opinion, and I can protest easily by not consigning or buying! That's it! Dave |
