A interesting observation made by some of the Oshawa workers, is that every time the Camaro line has left a plant, nothing replaces it & that plant closes forever. Norwood, Quebec, Oshawa. Will Lansing be next when the newest generation is finished ?

I doubt it. The new Camaro is built on a platform that it shares with a number of other vehicles.
That wasn't the case with the previous Camaro which was essentially a niche platform with limited parts sharing across other vehicles. Additionally- Lansing also builds the Lambda platform trucks (Acadia, Traverse, Enclave) so there is some diversification. |

The move of the F back to the states was predictable given the maturation period of the 30 year Canadian loans to GM Canada LTD. Lansing is the logical plant to build the car.
What follows is an debut announcement again here only at Yenko.net As soon as production becomes stable there a sizable number of Norwood Men and a group of enthusiasts will tour the LGR plant together where the men of 1st, 2nd and third generation production at Norwood will stand face to face with the current generation now building the 6th generation car right on the assembly lines. If you want to participate in this event send me a PM. |

This is great news for the US economy but it kind of sucks for Canada. Hopefully they will get a different vehicle to build.
On a side note, we could sure use a vehicle to come to the "idle" Janesville plant.....that's for sure. One of benefits of the Janesville plant is that it's the only plant that GM actually owns the land. They lease the land with all the other plants. Kurt

Correct...."it kind of sucks for Canada".
We will lose 1,000 good paying jobs at the GM plant in Oshawa along with ALL the other spin off jobs that are a result of these positions. We also lost 1,000 good paying jobs at the same plant in 2008 when the pick up truck production was closed. The question remains, what are the long term plans for this plant? Oshawa Ontario has been hit hard.....real hard. Paul |

I'm a member of the HBA (Home Builders Association) here in my town, which is part of the CANADIAN HBA, We had a rep from the Canadian body in back in November of 2014 I believe. The harsh reality is that "somehow" there is a mindset from the CAW that ALL car manufacturing in Ontario at least, within the next 10 years!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oshawa is losing the F body, Toyota Cami plant has lost the Corolla for 2016. This is just a start. Labor and other costs are what's killing these her in Canada. Sucks, but the writings on the wall. These "elected" officials that are screwing us at every turn will end up killing manufacturing in this country in my lifetime, as I'm 49 now.

Kurt,
Don't worry when election time rolls around there will be again discussion of reopening Janesville Assembly....I think It would be a great museum plant as it will be 100 in a few short years. |
