Default Jack Douglas ad: circa February 16,1969

Shor was having some "technical difficulties" getting this ad posted, so he emailed it to me. Check out the "attachment" in the header of this message.

Check out the Brigance Chevy adv.(Mr. Ed)at the bottom of the page.

This is the Mr. Ed who was the fleet and order specialist for Brigance Chevy, as well as new car manager.

He soon thereafter, left to run the new car department at Fencil Tufo Chevy and took on marketing the Yenko Deuce.

My late Corvette mechanic, Frank Krummer worked as a tech
at Brigance Chevrolet from 1966 till I think the mid 70's
before getting his own shop, Suburban Pit Stop. (Ogden ave and Harlem in Berwyn Il) He told me that dealer was very performance orientated in the 60's. He told me that he factory ordered a 1969 Z28, and a 1970 Chevele SS 454 LS5
that he used as a tow car! He also worked on many performance cars of customers as well.

Their was a lot of muscle car activity in that part of the Chicago area back then between all the COPO's sold at Jack Douglas Chevy, Nickey Chevrolet, Mr Norms Grand Spaulding Dodge, Fencil Tufo, Etc.

A couple of interesting facts, Marlin Spotts told me that their were more Yenko Deuces sold in the Chicago area than anywhere else(Im still looking Marlin!), and Pontiac GTO sales were also higher in Chicago than any other city.

Brigance was definatly selling HIPO Chevys. One of the board members has a Documented LS6 purchased from there.

I just ran accross the remnants of a fully documented 1969 Chevelle SS 350hp 4 speed with 4.10 posi sold by Fanning Chevrolet in Aurora, IL.

Stefano,

What Chevy dealer in in Fanning Chevrolet's place now? I worked in new automobile sales in Downers Grove and have never heard of this dealer.

Frank, I don't believe that Ed Fanning still exists, even under a different name. I grew up in Downers Grove, which dealer did you work for ?

Steve,

I currently work as the finance manager at Joe Madden Ford.
They have been in business since 1963 so they were their when you grew up in town.

A very cool Jack Douglass unused parts shipping tag. Note how they spelled his name wrong. They only used one S at the end.

I also spent a lot of time talking to a guy at Super Chevy this weekend that showed me vintage pics of a 1967 Chevelle SS L78 375hp 4 speed car that he bought new from Douglass. In the pics you can clearly see the decal that Shor has on the back of his 69 Yenko Chevelle.
