I seem to recall a thread, some months ago, pertaining to the existence of a 70 L-78/TH400 Camaro. There was a car offered up as an example of being original. Is this it? http://www.camarogenerations.com/memberfiles/jackwhite.html

Yes that is the same car. Yes Jack still has it. No he still won't let the build sheet be posted on the Internet. Yes I'm still willing to bet alot of cash that it is a real car. I hadn't thought about the drag racing angle though. So are you guys saying that a 70 L78 auto car can't be run in stock class because there is no proof of any being built ? Are you saying that if Jack comes forward with the proof that the NHRA would have to change what is allowed ? That might be a way to approach Jack.

As one of the owners of a survivor 1970 L-78 Camaro (M-21/4:10 12 Bolt) I have been very interested in the above thread. I would think that one of the best ways to determine a factory L-78 Automatic would be the lack of a 4 speed transmission shifter "hump" in the tunnel floor. Norwood cars didnt come with Build sheets but had L-78 on the trim tag, whereas the LA cars had build sheets with NO(L-78) trim tag markings......I just think its very unusual that with 600 1970 Camaro made, no one has any print,window sticker,build sheet,magazine articles or photo evidence of this application......Chuck Sharin

It is also unusual that NHRA would be asking for proof of a 1970 L78 auto. This means that NHRA has no record of one and they have production records on many of the hi po cars that were factory built and raced. You have to keep an open mind that it may be real but it will take some documentation to be believable. Also he states that the car had an interior change which means there is less evidence to check for. I'm not saying anything against the owner of the car. He may not realize why people are so interested.

600 is a fairly low production volume for such a desirable option, in my opinion. How many Documented L78 1970 Camaros survive today? |

It is surprising (and a bit suspicious) the owner will not let anyone see his buildsheet. It's not like there is anything secret on it or would help someone clone a car.
Stefano, I've owned 2 '70 L-78's Camaros and still have one an RS/SS w/matching #'s. I've seen five or six over the years. Rare car and probably undervalued given the 600 built. |

He has let plenty of People see the Build Sheet. He also brings a copy of the real build sheet with him to shows. He just won't let it be posted on the Internet as he understands nothing about the Net. Two of our more knowledgable Club Members have seen the real sheet but there will apparently always be skeptics. I haven't yet seen the sheet but he did make the effort to bring it to a Club meeting that I happened to miss. I have enough Faith in the two Members that looked at the sheet that I'm still willing to bet a couple thousand dollars that the sheet and car are real. Any takers ?
