Ive seen some really weird coded cars GM did in 69 but I'd have to say that this car for sale on eBay has the oddest option trim designation I think I've seen since the Great Pumpkin up in Canada. Is this car's trim tag for real??? I just pulled out a Z10 trim tag I have that has a Black Vinyl top option, & the #'s on the X22 car seem to jive as far as body run #s go compared to my Tag. What are the chances an X22 car would have a Pace Car interior option???

Contrary to a lot of opinions, just about anything was possible to be built if you wanted to spend the money and the dealer involved had a good working relationship with someone in upper management at the factory. Sometimes if the factory absolutly would not do what was requested the dealer would if the right amount of money was involved, but a case like that of dealer alterations would not be reflected on the trim tag. Basically, anything that was constucted on the line that was outside the boundries of ordering combinations could still be built if someone in upper management decided to add the now famous term, COPO. That term does not just apply to high performance cars, many fleet cars and trucks were built to a desired requirement using the COPO concept. If it could not be built using standard RPO's, sometimes it was built under Central Office Production Order. (COPO) Being from the Detroit area and the right age with most of my family and friends working for the big three, I have seen factory produced cars so odd that I dare not mention them here for the bashing I would have to endure. Bottom line, if you wanted it, odds are you could get it, as long as the motivating factor was the same as it has been all thru time for everything...Money!

I indeed agree with you, as I have observed some irrational looking cars that years ago weren't re-tagged. Today's cars have the option of someone altering/changing tags to fit their desires but I looked at this tag pretty closely and compared the run #s with other info I have in my hand and wonder if that color interior was available to order at that time. I know later it was offered and a copo push thru the system could evolve that. It just seems really odd to me that an X22 car with a 720 50 B code being built right along and next to the Z10 cars. It's just me I think but they all must have been looking over their shoulders watching this car behind them being built while assembling Z10's...

Took some looking to find it: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...;category=6161
That interior had been available since February, for the first pacers. Nothing complicated in ordering that one. Other than pacers, mostly see it in orange cars, I had one. And it should have SS stripes, not Z. BTW, no Z10 has been found with a 720 interior.

Kurt,
You did better than I, I could not find the thing. I agree totally about the 720 interior in the Z-10, I have never seen one and all my records and my source at GM indicates one was never made. Just so I dont stick my foot in my mouth though, I will say never say never, but after three hours of exhausting research and phone calls I would feel rather safe in saying it never happened. That is rather odd though considering the Z-10 was supposed to be the hardtop alternative to the Z-11. Wonder why? At any rate this X-22 car is an odd one, is it just me or did anyone else notice that the paint seems to be peeled all the way around the cowl tag as well as the caulk in the rivits seems a bit overdone. Sequence number is in line with the VIN though, guess it is one of the many oddities that someone had to have, as you stated you had one. BTW, if that was you that sent a email about tires let me know as I am about to go through everything, the first to contact me are going to be the winners. Thanks, Motown

Why do you have a Z10 trim tag just laying around?

As for the Z10 tag laying around; I found that car in a yard before it was crushed and took the tag before it was lost
