Dad's old '79 Camaro found!

Last year before graduation (high school) I noticed a camaro, that I was searching for. It just happened to be my dad's old camaro! There is no doubt in my mind that this is the exact car, as it was still wearing the original white mudflaps! After contacting the owner, I found out where he got it, and who that guy got it from, and so on, all the way back to my dad. The car has recently been resprayed in the original Bright Blue, and still retains the Stock Blue interior. The sad part is that my dad passed away a couple of years ago (i was 17). While talking to the owner, he insisted that he wouldn't sell. I really want to own this car, if not for the car, just for the keepsake memory. I don't know if the kid who has it is actually the owner, or if it's in his dad's name, but I know the kid doesn't want to sell. I didn't tell him about my dad passing away, but he does know that it's my dad's old car. Does anyone have any suggestions on how i could persuade the kid to sell? I really, really want this car. I have a car that I could trade, described below, and in my profile.

Gobs of cash have always seemed to work as the best "means of pursuation" for anything I ever wanted bad enough. [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img] Make him an offer... don't just ask if its for sale, but actually throw a figure at him. Better yet, SHOW him the cake! Give him your phone number too... Even if he still says no, he'll think about it for days on end, and will have a way of contacting you if and when he does change his mind. The car is obviously worth more to you than a 79 camaro would be worth to anyone else, including this kid, his dad, or whoever actually holds the title. Now, sign off and go buy that car! I would throw huge figures at the guy, but unfortunately, i'm in college, and have absolutely no money. My mom said that she would help me get the car, but i don't think she has the money available either. Im stuck. I guess i could sell my car, then take the chance of him either selling, or not selling, but then I'd be out of a car if he doesn't sell.

It's in awesome shape.
Fresh paint, Motion paint scheme(drk blue w/white striping), extremely low amount of bondo (just a small bit where the rear quarter was dented in an accident)
Newly redone interior (looks awesome,sorry i cant post a pic, but it's practically mint!)
Cragar Keystone Klassic Rims
New Firestone Indy 500 Firehawk tires (less than 100 mi)
New IROC style front valence (270 bucks!)

If the young kid really is the owner of your Dad's old car he may be stupified by all the Motion stripes and gee gaws you've installed on your '76. Might be easier to strike up a deal when he has something flashy sitting there in front of him for motivation. Explaining the sentimental value probably wouldn't hurt either, it may at least get you first cracks if he does ever decide to sell. Good luck getting that car.

Your suggestion sounds good, and it could put some leverage on the bargain, but there's a few things i should probably take care of on my car first, like the overspray on the tailpipes, and the musk-melon sized starburst on the windshield where a rock from a semi hit it! But hey, not every car is perfect, and i'm sure that my dad's camaro isn't in tip top shape either. I know that before it was painted, it did have some rust in the left rear quarter, and on the left rocker panel, so it's just that much more bargaining leverage! My hopes are reenergized! It's been over a year since i last talked to him, but last weekend while i was in mosinee, i saw him driving down the road, and he waved. he really didn't seem too interested selling then, and probably isn't too interested now, but i can only try again. Hopefully he needs a place to store it for the winter, and would be interested in selling it instead of storing it! I didn't contact him yet, but I hope i can get a hold of my mom and get the phone number soon. With any luck, i'll be able to see him this weekend. I can only dream of smokey burnouts!
