Default OK - Why does GM show a 1969 Camaro for 1970?

I was on the GM Photostore website today and I came across
an image of a 1970 SS Camaro. I was somewhat shocked so I
thought I would share the link with you. Unfortunately, I
can't post the images from that site as GM owns them.

What's so odd is that the model is a 1969 with a 1970 front
license plate tag. Obviously, this was a pre-strike photo.
However, the car has N/66 wheels on it!

N/66 wheels were discontinued in about November of 1968 as
I recall. So, how did they end up on a 1970 model photo?

God! That car is beautiful!

1970 Camaro?

There are also two engine images I think many of the big
block guys will get a tickle out of!

Porcupine

L/71

My L/71 doesn't look that dolled up?

The 69 Camaro was an extended run and was built way past the normal July date for re-tooling. The 70 1/2 Camaro was delayed so the early ads show 69 Camaros...BKH

Hey Brian!

I was just surprised that GM would use what obviously
appears to be a picture of a car built in early 1969 for
a 1970 product introduction.

Yeah, it is sort of weird seeing that 69 Camaro parked next to the 70 Chevelle. I would imagine most of general public would not even notice or care for that matter...BKH

That was typical of Chevrolet to continue to show the 1969 Camaro among the new 1970 vehicles.I agree having a Camaro w/the early issued Magnum 500 wheels is unusual, but they did recycle pictures quite frequently when possible to keep costs down.
They repeated this theme throughout much of the 1970 literature like Press kits,Com. Kits and Magazine ads..
I personally think these two car designs accent eachother quite well for posterity.

It's this information that has a lot of people thinking the 1970 Camaros are called 70-1/2. A lot of people think the "early" 70 Camaros had the 69 body style still. But they are all 69's with 69 VINs.

But the bodynumbers started all over again, in August 1969 I believe. So there should be early and late 1969 Camaro´s with the same bodynumber, but with early and late VIN´s.
