Have you asked the seller? Although Crane Corvettes does broach blocks, etc. However, I think they are up front about restamps.

I wasn't suggesting Crane was re-stamping. For all I know, they're just flipping it. I didn't even realize they were selling it. There's a discussion on Team Chevelle about it, and I thought it looked good. But some didn't. I'm just trying to learn more about the stamps. The re-stamps are getting better, so it's just education for anyone interested.

from the enlarged pic shown in their auction photo's.....
not an original stamping in my opinion
certain of the stamped characters are not original as per my photo library..... nice restamp as restamps go

note the difference in this real stamping with special attention to number 7 utilized

Crane's alternator is a restamp weather he knows it or not. There was another I think last week that sold for somewhere around 700-750.00 and that was a restamp too!!! Both alternator dates come up as 834 alternators. IMHO

Restamp. John Pirkle says the restamps are easily distinguishable by looking at two letters. If the restampers ever figure that out and those two letters are improved, it'll really be tough.

couple ways to normally identify the fake 837's. 1. 837's were made in specific date batches and those few dates are pretty well known if you dig around. The amateur's normally don't even check the date, so their dead right there, forget about what the stamp looks like at that point. 2. As indicated, The 7 is normally the give away, original's have a certain "swale" to it, kinda pushed out on the side, not easily duplicated, but I am sure somebody will get it right. My advice, if you want a real one, pony up the required cash and by from a reputable guy who will guarantee authenticity
