I'll get on this Monday and see what I can do. How hard does it need to be?

I made one out of a shock absorber rubber. Put the piece in the freezer overnight and you can drill it, grind it, file it whatever to get it to the desired size. 29 years and still working. Gunsmiths use this trick to file fit a custom butt stock to fit the shooter👍

That drawing shows the replacement of the new style reverse detent with the old style.
On that drawing , they don't show the neutral gate spring or what Chevy called " the control lever spring" . I have been trying to find the original drawing that just shows the original style reverse detent to see if the neutral gate spring is shown. The 3 speed Muncie shifter drawing shows the neutral gate spring This caused a problem. I did a Muncie shifter for a 68 Camaro that went for judging at the Camaro nationals and they told the owner that the 67-68 Camaro 4 speed did not have a neutral gate spring. The 3 speed did have it but the 4 speed didn't have it and they used that drawing as evidence. The same basic design 3 and 4 speed Muncie shifter was used in 67-68 Camaros, 68 to 72 Chevelle , 68 to 72 Impala , and 68 to 72 Nova I had many original shifters that had the neutral gate spring but some were missing them but other parts go missing on the used shifters also. I talked with the Camaro judges on it and sent pictures of original unrestored shifters with the neutral gate spring and they sent me a picture of a NOS shifter without the spring. They stand by the rule that the 67-68 Camaro 4 speed did not have a neutral gate spring. I stand by my findings that they should have the spring. Most shifters use a neutral gate spring including the Hurst shifters and most of the cars and trucks that I have seen have one. Some cars don't have one though. |

A couple of close up photos showing a take off from a 1970 Chevelle Muncie.
Shows the Shift Lever Shaft Retainer 3923544 really well
