parts prices holding versas cars ?

I know in the vintage Porsche world were I buy , sell and horse trade parts for my race cars that not much has changed. That market is also effected by the exchange/Euro that has dropped from 1.55 to 1.20 to the dollar but it seems the euro sellers just jack their prices up to balance it out.

I have not seen any real drop in the good pieces but the average stuff has dropped a little. The only bad thing I have seen is the amount of restamped pieces at the shows trying to be sold as the real deal.

All I can hope for is that the "non car guy" speculators will bow out, this should stabilize the prices.

When a done nicely very high optioned 1967 427/435hp roadster is bringing $150k at a major auction (orv estimated to).

A bare Block is not worth $8k - standard bore/early date or not !

It just does not pencil out.

I MIGHT pay $8k for one . IF it was the original block from a car I owned , and it still retained it's factory stamping.

But that's about it - until (or if) the cars return to a higher value.

Actually , it blows my mind that their (the cars) only bringing this amount now!

Just happened to come on this (which to me really nails it and actually relates to value of these blocks).

The last 2 lines of last thread post nails it and really says it all:

So , In general (and as far as i'm concerned) all this BS block stamping of the last 25 years . Has really only done one thing - RUIN a bunch of good original blocks ability of being reunited with original bodies!!

If a block restamp can always be detected - then a dated block is worth far less $ than people believe.

It is truly only worth big $ - to the owner of a certain car - IF that car exists & it's original stamping is still present in the block.

If buying the right parts with correct dates makes you car more valuable and more factory correct, buy 'em if you can afford to do so and sell the stuff you have. Some of these hard to find parts, like a CX or CY trans for example, don't come up for sale very often, so you have to snag 'em when they're available.
