Default Re: US 30 BACK IN THE DAY

York US 30 was one of the first places I drove to upon getting my driver's license. The track was and still is Thomasville Airport. Still surrounded by fields and quarries just as it was back in the day so I doubt noise would have been a problem. If my memory is correct, the tower is long gone. Not really sure of the reason for the track's demise. It was fun to go with a car load of teenagers. The guys at the gate must have had x-vision and somehow knew we usually had another guy or two in the trunk.

Doubt if it was noise and absolutely not poor attendance IMO. It was an airport and a drag strip. I guess the airport eventually won out. If NHRA was smart they would have bought YORK US 30 instead of some of the other tracks they bought. You could park a million cars there. Maybe the airport owners would not sell and NHRA wanted to buy it but couldn't. Many, many great events were held there. I went there since 1970. The first Summernats!
