-----There are documented examples of cowl hood delivered 69 Camaros with the cowl harness hole in the firewall not drilled in the correct place. The hole isnt far off, but its not where the dimple is. Do we chalk it up to "hole driller indifference??? I would think the hole was drilled manually and not punched, but I dont know.......Bill S

if you are looking at a car and pondering if its an original cowl car, see if it has its matching numbers hood. It should have a number on it. It could make you feel more comfortable. There were not that many cowl hooded cars when you take out the copo production and the pace car totals out of the 10K hoods made. No docs will be a tough call. A correct date (week) matched hood would really help.

Here is a thread to decifer how to find the number:

I believe you are correct Bill. Both of the referenced holes on the firewall pic I posted have small burrs on the inside of the firewall left from the drill bits. None of the punched holes (for instance the four around the brake booster hole) have burrs. I know it to be a factory ducted hood car.

I have seen several slight variations in the placement of each of these holes. The assy manual shows where to drill, but they didn't all get drilled exactly as planned in the manual. Imagine that.
