It's a common misconception that Chevy II L79 cars never had factory a/c, probably because very few did. The engine suffix codes on these cars ends with ZJ. If the car also had an A.I.R. system it was ZH.

I heard that maybe the 3-spd cars got them, and it is possible this car I found had a 3-spd originally. The engine is original, the trans is a 69 Muncie, and the rear is a correctly dated 10-bolt. Still has its original paint, interior, spare, and has never had any type of restoration or detail work done to it. The current owner never knew of the wrong year transmission until we looked at it this past weekend, and he has owned the car for 20 years. He wasn't aware that the car was supposed to have a 12-bolt rear axle either, at least from what I have been told over the years.

I've never heard of any 1966 L79 Chevy II with a 10 bolt, including the 3 speed cars. The GM Canada microfiche for the 12 bolt 3 speed L79 Acadian mentioned was damaged and unreadable, but the owner does have the POP and original dealer sales paperwork. There is no listing of a base 3.08:1 for any L79 Acadians or Chevy IIs, just 3.07:1, so this may be an error.

I will have to get the rear axle numbers from the other guy I road with to view the car. I want to say it was a BO or something like that as it was a 3.55 ratio and posi. It was perfectly dated to the car and did not appear to have ever been changed. Give me a day or so to get a hold of him as he went out of town this week for a convention.
