As of last night, the younger one is doing much better, most of the tubes, etc have been removed, he is communicating with staff/family, just a long road ahead on PT with several broken bones, including a couple of spinal disks.
The older one is not out of the woods yet, but they have finally been able to relieve much of the pressure on the brain, so hopefully he will start making progress as well.

After many sleepless and worrisome nights, and several miles to/from the hospital, I wanted to drop a note of "thanks" in here, as well as an update...
The younger brother, Mark, spent about a month in the hospital, and is recovering from neck & back injuries [surgeries], as well as the usual cuts/scrapes/bruises. He's in a back brace for a while, and he's had some small issues pop up [ex: the hearing in one of his ear's is gone], but he's home finally. The older brother, Kevin, spent 6+ weeks in the hospital, and was in a coma for 5 weeks of that time with a severe brain injury...part of his skull had to be removed due to cranial pressure, he has road rash all over, as well as a broken shoulder. He was home a couple weeks before returning yesterday for surgery to reinsert the piece of his skull they removed, but is [amazingly] supposed to be home this evening or tomorrow. He's walking & talking, and just showing minute signs of severe brain trauma [some memory loss, speech, balance, etc] but therapy is working on that...the only things left are the surgeries to repair his broken/crushed facial bones [can't breathe out nose, hurts to chew]. They're both a long, LONG ways from where they were just a couple months ago when they were both fighting for their lives, but now they're just trying to get their strength back after dropping down to nearly 100lbs each...but that's a task our community is more than glad to have, and is willing to do something about! LOL!! Thanks again... |

Thanks for the update Rob. We've been lax in our thoughts for them but we'll get back on track with prayers tonite.
Your Dad and I shared some thoughts on small town life this past weekend. I wouldn't trade it for anything. Those guys are exactly where they need to be.

I failed to mention to keep the young man who was driving the car in your thoughts also...he only had a messed up foot/ankle, but he was taking it really hard [who wouldn't?!] seeing his friends in comas for a while...he's doing considerably better, but it's been rough. He & his parents live across the field from us, so we've talked quite a bit about it, and it was simply one of those "you can't win" situations...5 kids in car headed to McDonalds, and a bunch of kids packed in the cab of a Ford Ranger cross the road in front of them because the driver [also a high school kid] can't see for all the people in his truck, so it's either hit the Ranger in the door or take the ditch...that's simply a position to fail. It was bad enough, but how bad would it have been to hit those kids in the door?
