I always disconnect mine manually. I carry a 5/16 wrench just for that purpose for the side terminals.
Superstitious I guess, after I had a car start on its own years ago. It was a haunted 1970 440+6 Cuda hardtop. Back in my younger years (I was 18 at the time) I used to talk to my cars hoping they would appreciate the attention. [img]<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif[/img] One night I was locking up the garage getting ready to go into the house. The car keys were in my hand and I said "Goodnight" to the Cuda as I closed the garage door. Half a second after the words were out of my mouth the car started cranking over. Luckily it was not in gear. I ran back in, popped the hood and pulled the battery cable off the battery terminal. She stopped cranking. I said "Thank you. Now go to sleep!" and I locked the garage door. I never, ever left a battery hooked up again, when a car was parked, after that!
