I never shipped a rear end, but I think I would crate it up first, then strap it to the longer pallets they have. JMO for what it is worth. Having the axles hanging over the pallet just is asking for trouble.

I strap it tight to a pallet with multiple ratchet straps then I shrink wrap it.
