I kinda forgot (old age) that 67 Chevelles had serial numbers stamped individually, at least at some assembly plants. Saw many examples at various shows over the years and my 67 396/325 El Camino is similar to your small block.......Bill S

Some of those original stamps look like they where done by a two year old. Was this the norm for certain assembly lines, or just an annomoly for a period of time for said plant?

I'm no expert by any means but seems the mid 60's pads I have had or seen the VIN is hand stamped individually, it was just a job for them they were messy.

Also, I believe the big blocks were stamped before the heads were installed? I have seen some where there was no way the engine assy plant could have stamped the code and date with the pass side head on. Small blocks were stamped on the opposite side of the pad, so clearance was better.

Every original 1965 Z-16 396/375 Chevelle and some 1965 Impala 396 Blocks I ever saw looked like a 2 year old stamped it, nothing near "Gang" stamped, all over the pad, but the VIN was nicely stamped. JMO

Our 67 Chevelle [396/325] had a very messy stamping...definitely not a gang stamp...the '7' was kind of hanging out there all by itself.
