Missed the AMG era, but lived above Morton's for a while around that time and would see one or another in the garage from time to time and wondered if possibly Richard's, but likely those of your customers, if not. Can imagine it must have been a blast! |

Neat car, those AMG sedans were a big deal for sure.
I think that location still has a dealer, I'm thinking Continental Motors? I used to hang out with a buddy who lived a few streets over. |

It's Continental AutoSports Ferrari today,I drive by it weekly and even stopped in a few years ago to look into some old Jack Douglass history.

In the 80's they were a little farther west on the same (south) side of Ogden Ave. in Westmont - just west of Cass Ave. I just looked at a Google Earth view and it looks like the building is no longer there (unless it is the Georgia Carpets building??). The summer I worked there I was 15 and too young for a driver's license, so many times I rode my bike up and down Cass Ave. to get back and forth to work from our house in Darien.
Tenney - that Hemmings ad was just after Dad bought his 67 Red L79/A-C roadster from Richard (and how we were introduced to Bill and Stretch around 1976). I think Dad was also looking at the Maroon 67 coupe listed in that ad if I recall correctly - but Bill talked him into the roadster. Bill please correct me if I am mistaken...... Great memories for sure. Hard to believe that it was 40 years ago when I worked there and almost 50 when Dad bought the 67. Last edited by RPOLS3; 04-04-2025 at 11:58 AM. |

----I'm going to have to dig deep and find how many of those rides were once mine, some times more than once. Stretch also ended up both owning and just using some of the inventory as regular transportation as did I (the 1968 Impala SS convert was one of his favorites). Hope this isn't overload on my part.
Jake,,, I believe your Dad already owned his 67 when I started at Classic, but could be wrong. Too many years ago!!! Last edited by olredalert; 04-03-2025 at 10:39 PM. |

Not many L79/AC's runnin' around town even then, Jake!
When Continental moved-in (mid-late '80's?) - it was pretty much the same place - their service area was where your Camaro was parked, Bill. They've since Zamboni'd the joint a bit, as happens - yet a buddy working there at that time, still is! |

----One funny deal was Stretch's 65 396 blue roadster. He wanted to buy something else so I bought his 396. Kept it at Classic for the winter and then sold it back to him. Don't know if I even sat in it!....LOL.
---- The 66 full comp Cobra was actually a 65, and my cousin, Dave, was the 2nd owner. It had great racing history, but Dave never raced it. He offered it to me in late 69, but I couldn't come up with the needed cash ($5,500 I believe). Many years later the day I started work at Classic Richard asked me if I had a cousin named Dave that owned a Cobra. I said yes, and he told me he had just bought it. Hard to top that story!....Bill S Last edited by olredalert; 04-04-2025 at 07:27 PM. |
