copo9566aa,
Who is in charge of safety?--Do they have to apply to get permission to close down a certain area?? Looks organized. I guess the guy who loses the coin toss runs along side the telephone polls |

Organized? Safety? Well, then you can darn bet it's not Arkansas!
Check out a shot from George Ray's: ![]() Yes, those are spectators standing where the 60' beems should be (if they had such a thing)! And yes, those are railroad ties lining the side of the track! Here's a shot at the line: ![]() Check out the specators in the front row at the line! Want to get "up close and personal" with your favorite drag car? Then head to Arkansas! |

Chevy454,
You got my attention---First the people standing at the 60' mark --are they the 1/2 price seats and do any of the drivers get penalized [time] if they clip one of them. I also hope the people siting on the bench at the start are wearing clothes made of KEVLAR for clutch fragments. The R/R ties I guess buys you some time ,to see your life flash b-4 your eyes------.Other than that it looks like fun Is this a local street race gathering? If yes, do the local law harass them ?? |

Believe it or not, it's an actual drag strip...although I use that term loosely! It's a small strip about an hour south of here, called George Ray's Wildcat Dragstrip. As you can see, the r/r ties don't start until about the 330' mark, and they end at the finish line. After that, it's wide open. And cars HAVE gotten away from people there. The scary part is it was 1/4 mile for a LONG time, but they kept having people run off into the field on the end...so now they only run an 1/8.
No VHT, no track prep, and it's gravel right up until the burnout box! Don't stand behind a car during a burnout, or else you WILL get a rock to the skull! HP Tv did a special on this track last year, as it's the oldest individually owned track in the U.S...been there since the '50s or so. What's scary is that they get some DARN QUICK and very nice cars there...how, I don't know, but it's quite the show. |
