Ed, Drat! Thought I had a fish On! I Cant blame ya there,

Chuck, easy, I asked to be shown what the deal was and you did, I have a big heart and will help the guy out.

I kicked $10.00 bucks his way, if by chance this is a scam he gets to answer for his actions some day.

Bud.

Ed, Just hard to stand down when non members and non worthy members continually get slammed well before the facts are presented. Maybe this is what you guys are looking for,........ Kerosene Heater Ignites House Fire
Jan. 6, 2004

Fire gutted a garage in Salt Lake County tonight.

It didn't take long for fire fighters to arrive at the home.

But flames had already caused about 100-thousand dollars damage to the garage, and its contents, not the least of which was a -Corvette the homeowner was restoring.

There is also extensive smoke damage inside the home. No one was injured.

Fire officials believe an old kerosene -heater in the garage ignited the fire.

There are 4 donation auctions in less than 24 hours after a fire? A pic taken the night of the fire, no smoking ambers? And the possible remains of a 74 he may have bought on Ebay for a little under $3G back in October? It does all seem a little odd.

I'm not sure I would have my bearings gathered within 24 hours, and to even think you might get a return phone call from the insurance plus a check. OK, so then find time to put up donation ads on Ebay?

I'm just thinking out loud.

Steve, I agree, but at the bottom of the add,his names are listed, my guess is a friend possibly did the add, But with his user name???? seams odd also.

Chuck, I may have jumped the gun bidding, why not have Jeff come over for five minutes and sighn up and let us know how all this was done so quickly..........

this post hit a soft spot with me,
I know how it feals to lose everything as a kid my folks split up and our stuff was in the garage at the grandparents place well the old oil stove went kablooy one afternoon and burned everything up I owned, well at 8yrs old that really was a tough pill to swallow. And no Ins for some reason.

Bud

I sympathize with all fire victims, I would and have gone out of my way to help several. This just seems strange.

Very sorry if I'm wrong.

I jumped with emotion, the more I look at this thing the more I think something is not right, Steve is right, I would still be standing in my driveway in disbelief, and probably sick to my stomach.

I know i would be working my way up the ladder thinking there was a mistake or something on there end at the Ins Co. to not having Ins coverage, this takes time, Right??

I definitely would not be looking for handouts 24 Hrs after the event,at least not on e-bay, Family yes, sorry if I am wrong but something is wrong with the time frame.

This event may have happened last night, if it did then with the facts and how he has posted on e-bay already he new he had no Ins coverage before yesterday, does this make sense????.

Chuck,

I am sorry if I came across kinda harsh, especially if you know this person. But like Sam said, with all the internet scams out there, I could not help but feel it might be a "scam". I do feel bad for this man since it does appear that he indeed had a fire. From the photos in the auction it did look like it might just be his "garage", but it was hard to tell. According to the news story (source?) that you posted, it was his "garage" that burned, not his "home". What bothers me is that he said in the auction "This is what a home looks like after your worst fear" and stated "ALL LOST". I know he probably lost a lot in his garage, but he did not lose everything. He still has what is most important...his family!

I am a VERY generous person, and always willing to help someone in need. However, I feel this (eBay auction) was the wrong way to go about asking for help.

Best of luck to your friend and sorry to hear about his car and garage.

Rita

Usually I am one of the first in line to help someone out in a time of need but this seems rather peculiar, First off the check, If your insurance is cancelled you will receive a cancellation notice in the mail along with a grace period of at least 30 days to find new insurance, it seems odd that a refund check shows up at the time of the fire. Second, The address on the check is for a town in Arizona and the fire was in a garage in Utah. Is one of these addresses for a second home? Third, seems like the donation hot lines were set up aweful fast and at a time most of us would be spending time on the phone with our insurance agent asking why we didnt get a cancellation notice. Fourth thing is and as a builder I can tell you there are not alot of garages worth a 100k unless they are occupied by a Yenko or L-88 and in that case they would have their own insurance coverage for this, so that leaves the garage itself. I have an 80 foot 2 story wood framed garage that I built for at least half that amount including cement, drywall, bathroom facilities, and heating and Airconditioning. So saying their is a 100k in damage is a little off the mark. Somebody needs to fill in a lot of blanks before the donations can be sent out. Maybe the guy can come on here and explain what is going on...other than that, Thank God nobody was hurt.
Sam
