I might add that a good perimeter fence with gate alarms on them will also make it less attractive and anything that makes them take too much time will be a deterent.

Remember the Montoring people are not that reliable and by the time the police can finally arrive they may have done a lot of damage. Make it hard to get to the cars and then hard to get out of the area. A old beater of a car parked in front of the door just may save one of your cars from disapearing.

Something that you can do yourself and it is not expensive is X-10 remote devices. They have a complete line of devices that can work for you through your household wiring. I love the convience of some of them.

I have a switch near my favorite chair that will control the Celling fan on or off, the attic fan down the hall, a light over the couch that I cannot reach back far enought to operate all at the touch of a button.

I also have a time clock that controls devices all through the house that turn on and off at different times making the house look occupied when it is not. It is nice to come home to a lit house. You can also buy a computer controled interface that will operate tiny cameras and will turn on a vcr if anyone approches the house or your shop.

You could use something like this in your shop and if you have a old truck out front then they may think someone is in your shop when there really isn't. Anything that will slow the thief's down or deter them is worth any amount of money compared to the investment in your car.

Here is the web site to check it out. Be sure that you have lots of time to read all this as it will take you most of an evening to take it all in.

Warning!!! don't sign up for thier email offers or you will get so much crap it will piss you off. Their products are good and reliable and not expensive at all. Under $500 would put a hell of a good system on your home and shop. BTY: they also have a barking dog alarm you can put just inside your front door that is sound activated!!!

Neat stuff and it is sold by my alarm supply house here in Tulsa so it must be pretty good.
You can also find a ton of it on E-bay for sale.

With the value of the cars we are talking about your garages should have sprinkler/ fire suppression systems. Remember a few years back when Reggie Jackson lost a garage full of treasure to a fire? A damn shame.

Sure the systems are expensive but if you lose a car to a fire there is most likely no saving it.

This topic is very timely since I am finishing up a two-car garage.

Belair,

I hear Colt is a good insurance option, specially their ACP plan

Mark
A friend of mine had some problems with criminal types approaching his Garage in the wee hours of the night. He recorded a Dog barking Ferociously, and hooked that recording up to an external MOTiON detector. He then posted this picture outside his 4 garage walls.
He sleeps soundly now..

Since I am back near the city again THAT is the insurance that I got. The dumb ass that tries to bust into my garage will have the worst day of his life.....
