I remember a few different systems. One was a Clarion with a slide dial (no digital yet) and Jensen 4X6 and 6X9 speakers. Another car had a Kenwood head unit with Archer/Radio Shack speakers....those were the days.

Darren,
I wish there WAS a radio in mine! (NOT) You know how boring it is to cruise the streets looking for that purple Hemi Cuda and have to settle for the the sound of 2 1/4" Hookers and me trying to sing, "Burn-up that quarter mile" by Jan & Dean???

Craig Pionier 8 track in my '70 MG Midget. Someone tried to steal it in the lot at the apartment complex in Norfolk when I was in the Navy, but I had it stalled with "secret" screws so they didn't get it. Not much room in that car for tapes, but Jefferson airplane and Vanilla Fudge were always with me. I still have those tapes.

I can't remember who made this unit. But, my brother had an in dash recordable cassette player with mic in his 71 Z/28. That was in 1975 I believe.

I think that could've been a Marantz.

Concord Car audio with cassette deck (had a knob that you could vary the speed of the tape. It also had a built in equalizer and loudness button. I can't believe I took a picture of it...even worse, I can't believe I still have it!

It was expensive in 1980/81? at about $300 just for the tuner... That's how I started my credit...6 easy payments of ~$50.

Here's what it looked like:

For speakers I had Jensen 6x9 Triax II's in back and 4 inch up front (Later switched to the early Infinity Kappa seperates (the poly clear ones).

I still have the Concord deck...somewhere in the garage.
