But one is a Tier 1 collectible, and the other is a musclecar for the masses. While it's true that the expensive stuff brings up the tail of the lesser stuff, the fact remains that a GTO, RR, and any other everyman's musclecar are not going to be museum pieces like some of the others.

Hey Jersey Jeff. You da man! Exactly what has happened to the hobby. NON car guys who can't even check their oil. Man 40-$50,000 sounds cheap to them even if it is a 307 car. Look how much they paid for their Mercedes or Lexus. I hope everything comes back down to earth. I agree with Bruce. "Everything should be about the people."

The price of a new 2008 Mercedes/Lexus will always be more than the price of a 2007,and no one will stop buying them because of the price increases . Therefore the prices of classic cars is not going to drop but at worst level off,you just may not see the huge appreciation of 30/50% in a year. Sorry Sam, I know you want to pay 15K for a #1 69Z but you missed the boat 15 years ago

I must be mistaken.....
I like to watch pro football on TV even though I haven't played since high school I'm a partner in oil and gas wells but I didn't discover Spindletop I own a few stocks and bonds but don't have a seat on the NYSE. I bought a tractor but I'm not a farmer. I love to watch nascar but don't live in the Southeast I've worked on my own car but I'm not ASE certified I thought it was my money and whatever I invested in was an "investment" Guess I was wrong! Could you please tell me where to get an application for "Car Guy" and who to send it to for approval?

Price increases of new cars are marginal. In addition, many people lease cars, while collectibles use up liquid assets. Not to mention the fact that a Lexus is a daily driver, while a Yenko is not.

Jeff,
That TGI Firday's Story is the best!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() There's enough car's for everyone to enjoy. My motivation to go to work everyday (other than my family) is to try to get another car I really want, or just to be able to finish the two I still have. ![]() The market will take care of itself, just like in the 1980's (although, likely not as severely), and if/when it does, I'm gonna be there with cash-in-hand!!! ![]() ![]() Blair

You are not mistaken.....hardly.
Think about this.....If a person needs a definition of what a car guy is, like Sam said, then they ain't one ![]() As a car guy or gal, you know "who is and who isn't"; you don't have to be rocket scientist to figure this one out, do you? What I'm saying is the guy who has money but doesn't know his ass from accelerator valve when it comes to cars, ain't a car guy or whatever you want to label him as. No flaming here....PLEASE just that owning a classic or soon to be one carrys responsibilitys to the hobby. ![]() And by the way, if I saw that pinky-ringed fellow broken down on Rt 295 or the NJTP, I'd stop and get his car running for him. I always carry a pack of matches to set worn out points!!! (the flap is about .019) ![]() If you had choice to go out in the ocean or bay with a guy and his single prop, 2-stroke Evinrude 21' boat and one said "bring the instruction book" and the other guy said "grab some tools, standard & metric", who would you go with? ![]() Jeff ![]()

Hey Howard, The things you said in your post is NOT driving up prices on anything. The people that are buying alot of these very expensive musclecars are the same guys that used to laugh at me when I was pumping gas and changing oil after school in 1968. When these classics that people like Jeff and I and many others on this site have, started to go up and up and up in price they jumped in the mix. Looks like when the stock market slipped some, they jumped in on the car craze. Probably the gun collectors feel the same way. JMO Sam
