the movie channel runs an expose on mcqueen very now and then,and it has a detailed sequence showing mcqueen and the guy driving the charger practicing at some race track,i believe it was Ontario.
he tore that mustang up before the shooting of the actual chase,did a lot of donuts at a parking lot.

Anyone spot the Capri Cream/black top '67 Camaro in the movie? Just think, everything in California was "black plate" in those days!

Practice was at Cotati Raceway near Santa Rosa, north of SF. It's in the DVD special features section. Cotati Raceway has long-since been taken-over by subdivisions and malls.
