I hate to change oil in my daily driver... to me it is not worth getting dirty for the $25 they charge... then having to get rid of the old oil... I will put a timing belt or water pump or other $$$ ticket item... but an oil change.... give me a break... I much rather do something more rewarding than to change oil...

There are also several oil change facilitys here that charge 9.99 to 14.99 for an oil change on special ....go buy 5 QTs of oil and a filter, get dirty, and then find a place to dump the old oil???? i dont even think you can buy the oil and filter for what those places charge.

All this lack of pride in your work crap is all over--Years ago I took a buick of mine to the dealer for a 12,000mi check up--When I go to pick up the car I go over the maintenance work done with the service manage and part of the scheduled maintenance was to rotate the tires. I had to laugh when I saw that they had written all tires rotated and told the service manager his mechanics could proably fix any problem ---------All the tires had wheel locks...........True Story-------------Never went back.

my daughter took her VW (4NJNK)to a jiffy scrube in Mass and they stripped her drain plug and replaced it with some "molly" thingie. It was empty by the time she got home. They denied everything, even the Molly plug ( all her other services were from the dealer). A new pan was needed and installed by VW. Actual cost of savings is unknown.
![]() She always gets those VW $49. dealer oil changes now. this looks like Jiffy Lube policy acording to those workers in the video. It goes way beyond the $5.00 per teaspoon of brake fluid that I remember at the pumps. Those boys are crooks!! |

I once got a flyer for a 12 point free check-up (tire rotate, fluid top off and etc) from the place where I bought the car. I worked very close buy and winter was coming up so I brought it in. When I went to pick up the car it caught my eye that there were no finger prints on the dirty aluminum wheels. I brought the manager out and asked him how they can rotate the tires without even touching them. Was great seeing him squirm. I had the GM of the dealership taking care of me on the next visit. For this reason, I'll do all the work I can to my cars. Even oil changes. It only takes a few minutes..
Scumbags!

Come on - all you car guys - and no one has a friend in the business??
I drive a Lincoln Mark VIII and my wife drives a Trailblazer - without a lift and an engineering degree, your not getting those oil filters out. You need to find a good guy and keep going to him. I have a friend who has been servicing my cars for over 10 years and I'd trust him with anything. Last year I got a new set of tires from Tires Plus - they gave a complimentary oil and filter change with a set of tires. I watched from the garage doorway the "mechanic" carefully wipe the filter down without taking it out. Nice - never again!

I use Lube Dr for all our work trucks and personal cars and have since they opened here, I and anyone who works for me actually go into the pit and watch them to make sure they get all the grease fittings and it also gives us a chance to check things out underneith. For less than 20 bucks it's worth it. Our local Ford dealer gives us free oil and grease jobs but the lost time of the guys sitting there is not worth it. My Camaro's I do myself

....... I'll do all the work I can to my cars. Even oil changes. It only takes a few minutes.. [/ QUOTE ] Similar situation Darren. My ex-wife took her Blazer to the local GM dealer for an oil change/tire rotation. When she picked it up she noticed something wasn't right; a red light on the dash. She shut it off and went back to the service manager. Long story shortened; they had drained the oil and replaced the filter but had failed to put the new oil in! They immediately corrected their mistake and told her they were sure it hadn't caused any damage to the engine. ![]() When she told me the story later that night I exploded. I was at the dealership when the service manager arrived the following morning. I confronted him and he acted like a sheep in the company of wolves. THEN I jumped him about the tire rotation we paid for and didn't receive. How did I know? Two of the tires were RWL and the other two were blackwalls. Both the RWL tires were on one side with the RWL to the inside so they matched the others. Everything was in the exact location as when she drove in the day of the non-work! All association with that Dealership ended that day! ![]() For that, and many other reasons, I change my own oil and filters! Granted, I'm not a Certified GM Service Technician, but my customer is satisfied! Also, I have a number of choices as to where I drop my used oil.

My garbage collector now takes oil. I just need to write "Used Oil" on the jugs and he takes them away. Can't get much simpler. Even when I had to drive to recycle center I still didn't mind doing it myself... Those rat [censored] son of [censored] [censored] [censored]!
