Re: Steve McQueen's Bullitt Chase Video
In all the scenes leading up to the chase here is what i noticed about the Charger.
Car had front bumper guards removed. Custom Power cushion Bias ply tires. 4 speed trans, you can see the top of the shifter,Inland shifter in one of the scenes. Head rests (removed)you can see the escutcheons. Shoulder belts (removed, you can see the clips) Wood steering wheel Remote drivers mirror In the chase scene, the car had radial tires. The drivers mirror is not remote, unless it was replaced after being ripped off. The steering wheel on the car in the final scenes was not a sport wheel. When Phil is reloading the gun you can see a 4 speed shifter boot and the center part of the buddy seat. This could have been a studio shot ,the same as the seat belt scene. According to one website there are rumors of one of the Chargers still in the hands of a studio or production company employee. The other Charger was restored as garbage bin in 1971. The sounds clips with the shifting on the highway scene must have been done with an automatic. You cannot powershift an Inland that fast.
