Thanks for the compliment on my Nova. I had already sent an email to the Z16 registry to ask for info. They may not respond until Monday. Thanks for all of the useful information. Todd

I would imagine the value would be right up there with a BE rear if not higher. A very special unit.

I am thinking higher. Tell me what is special about the BE coded rear end. It is a special gear ratio/posi combined with a correct date code? But, what is unique other than that? How many were made?
The Z16 axle not only had special larger axles and bearings but also had specially modified brake drums to clear the very rare and Z16 only riveted wheels.

I have sold two of the Z16 rears in the past.
A bare housing went for $2200 and a complate rear went for $3500.

The BE rears used a special heat treated r&p set and a 4-series posi unit with special internals.
There was one made for every COPO car. I believe the rears
were one of the hold ups on the assembly of some of the COPO cars.

There are two "BE" coded rears on Ebay right now.
One is a restamp.
Last month a fake BE sold for $3173.21.

There is only one way to find out what you can get for it, and that is to list it.

And on the "KQ" Chavelle rears, I have been getting outbid on the real ones at $9K+.

Thanks Julian. May I ask where and when you sold them?

I didn't have them listed for sale. The buyers contacted me because they heard I had them.
About 3 and 5 years ago.

You have to remember rare does not garantee huge dollars for resale. You indeed have a very special item there however the group that would be interested in it is very small. If a Z16 owner needed one it will bring top dollars, if it is being purchased as just a spare not as much. It cannot be compared to KQ chevelle rears.
I wish you well with your sale and I am sure Dave will assist you with it's true value.

The market is probably larger than it once was. Especially since all the "clone" or "recreations" have been bringing so much $$$. I found a Z16 clone on BJ that sold for $40k recently. People are building Clones of everything and often buying original matching number parts for the big $$$ and getting it when they decide to sell.
