I have a question regarding this topic. There are companies that manufacture replacement license plates for our hobby. I'm not sure of the particulars here, but I'm wondering if you could have a plate made ( eg. 69-396 ) and register it under this program? ![]() [/ QUOTE ] Years ago I had the guy in Florida make a 1972 Ohio plate for my car.Back then everything was done via the mail to Columbus, all they wanted was a photo copy of the plates. Now keep in mind the guy in florida makes his plates out of aluminum. The problem here in Ohio now is that all the paperwork is done at the local license store....and they check your old plates with a magnet ! So make sure you know your states proceedure before having a set made. |

I like it when an owner goes the extra mile and displays the vintage windshield mounted village sticker too.
Not every village issued those,as was my case,so I opted for the selling states original inspection label instead. ![]() |

[ QUOTE ] They complete the time warp ![]() ![]() [/ QUOTE ] HEY !!!! whats up with the 62 ??? Very cool. I thought all Cali gold plates had to be turned in for black plates in 63 ? [/ QUOTE ] Thanks Bob,I'm having a blast hitting the local shows with it-it's a real oh nine/oh nine with complete owner(and track)history.Bruce knows the story on the car and is graciously going to do a members ride piece on it,but I need to put detailing time in under hood-nothing like your blue car but i'm working on it! On the plates you are correct. In 63 all yellow base plates had a mandatory DMV surrender for the black base, but Cali has a YOM program for all 47-62 period plates so the bubble just made the cut. There is a bill in legislation right now to allow the 63-69 black base in the YOM program..I kinda hope they don't pass it because I have a 69Z with it's black plates I bought from the first owner who kept the reg current, but that's a bit selfish as they look great on any car...pretty much a badge of honor out here but you would be amazed at the lengths people go to attempt to duplicate the look.. |

![]() [/ QUOTE ] they look great on any car...pretty much a badge of honor out here but you would be amazed at the lengths people go to attempt to duplicate the look.. [/ QUOTE ] ![]() My take on CA black plates being a badge of honor is that they make the statement "I have been here longer than you have." Having grown up in California (I was born in GA after my dad got recalled to the USAF during the 1961 Berlin Crisis) and watching it's demographics change dramatically, especially where I grew up, I think those who have lived there a long time (more than 30 years or so) use black plates as a badge of native pride. With so many immigrants to California (of all colors and economic levels) over the years, all trying to fit in and become 'old timers' too, black plates tell the car show crowd that you're more senior than everyone else. I still have an old bumpersticker from the early 1980s that says "Welcome to California, now go home." Black plates and yellow plates tell other car guys that you ARE home. "I was here before everybody else." That's a very Californian attitude given the constantly-changing face of the population. That's how I see YOM CA plates, anyway. By the way Mark, that '62 is STUNNING. |

Anyone know what the rules are for AZ. I have picked up several old plates and would love to register my 69 with 69 AZ plates.

Dave,
AZ offers three plate options for classic, historic and street rod. There does not appear to be an option for using a "vintage" plate. Are you in AZ or FL ? It does not appear to be offered in FL either. http://www.azdot.gov/mvd/vehicle/mvdplate.asp http://www.hsmv.state.fl.us/html/titlinf.html obviously websites may not be current or have all info. I'd check with a local office. |

Dave's got a lot on his mind lately. He just moved from FL back to AZ last week. He is on terminal leave from the USAF and recently had his retirement ceremony (24+ years). Some of you may remember he recently finished a tour in Iraq that the AF just barely squeezed onto the tail end of his career. Surprisingly, Dave says the AZ Sonoran desert is a tad more hospitable than the deserts in Iraq. Believe he received his personal goods shipment yesterday, so he is probably ear-deep in cardboard.
Congrats and welcome back Dave! ![]() P.S. update your personal info ![]() ![]() ![]()
