I'm impressed with your knowledge of the Duke...he is a big deal at my house. He spent a lot of time south of the border...wish we had movie actors like him today. 2007 was the centennial of his birth....long live his memory.

Here's one for you...I would assume that you know the university that he went to...and what he originally went there to do...but do you know what happened to him (and the exact location that it happened at) to change his carreer plans tremendously?

The NRA publishes a monthly artical called the "Armed Citizen" there are a dozen or so stories taken from local papers describing bad guys being sent packing by avereage citizens with a firearm. There has been numbers floating around for a while which indicate that reported and un reported incidents of avereage citizens stopping crime with firearms is 1 mil+ per year.

The Dukes the King in my house also!!!!!!!!!!!

So, if it didn't happen we can't be sure just because they chose not to cover it?

This is the first I'm hearing about this theory, it sure makes it easier to read less newspapers knowing I may not be missing what they aren't covering!!

I think he wanted to be a lawyer, a shocking idea when I heard it on TV, probably the Biography Channel, years ago.

Lost a scholarship or ran out of money for school? Just guessing, I can't really remember much except his dog's name was Duke, that's where he got that monicker.

I'll drink to that. I recently bought "Island in the Sky" and "The High and the Mighty" on DVD an they are two of the finest flying movies ever made. The original stories were written by the dean of avaition writers, Ernest K. Gann. The High and the Mighty is considered to be Hollywood's first "disaster/suspense" film and the later "Airport" series of movies are basically sequels to The High and the Mighty. If you are sick of what Hollywood dumps on us nowadays then go get one of these and watch it. The Duke at his (non-western) best.

He injured himself "body surfing" at a place called the Wedge off Newport Beach, CA. He lost his scholarship because of this incident.

Now, here's a couple for you: What was the name of his horse in the movie El Dorado..?? What was the first movie Maureen O'hara appeared in with the Duke and what was the last..??? bonus question...name the ones in between..
