Car looks great!
Those vinyl top drip gutter retainer strips were stainless steel in 63 - 66. Then in 67, depending on the assembly plant and the time frame, they were either black plastic, or clear plastic with an embedded mylar chrome strip. The stainless strips are indeed very hard to remove without destroying them. I've been successful a few times, but you need to plan on about 2 hours per side to get it done!! The mylar 67 version shows up on eBay fairly frequently. It is not "correct" for a 65 or 66, but lots of people use them as a substitute for the original stainless strips. Here's a set on eBay now: https://www.ebay.com/itm/19572653927...Bk9SR7jOyI74Yg

Its a PRW branded run stand. I bought it used the summer before the pandemic. I was just noticing there up about 30% in price since I recall. Its a pretty good stand, but I rewired the entire setup and gave it a fuse block which has come in handy several times. I also got rid of the orignal 14 inch fan as it didnt have enough CFM. I also ditched the 2 core aluminum for an orignal 3 core GM 66/67 chevelle unit i had in my storage. Made a nice flat fan shroud to go along with it. The orignal didnt have a volt meter so i added that along with wiring to hook up an alternator if needed along with a voltage regulator.
To honest its easiets to just put the motor on the stand with as little as possible to run it in. Dad and I ran 3 motors through it in the course of a month. We found multiple leaks on dads 66 motor in terms of dumb stuff like a engine mount bolt being drilled out to the water jacket, and the main Hi Perf block plugs leaking. Its real hassel and peace of mind item to have. Once your all set with timing, jetting, and idle mix you drop it in the car and on first fire its running. |

Yes, i did go with the Turbo Mufflers. A couple of thoughts on sound just based on experience. Alot of initial advance seems to provide a more throaty sound, retarding softens it some. Even the idle mixture not being in the mid 13s to low 14s air fuel ratio will have an effect. I recurve all my distributors. Most BBC love around 15-20 initial advance with the mechaninal limit at 36-38 degrees(this is all without talking about vac advance) Im pretty consistent with all my builds at 18 initial and 36-38 max. So when you hear the car idling its around 18 with just a few more degrees of vac advance on top of that. If you wanna know more just ask. I love doing all this detailed setup work to make them run just right.

Erson doesn't seem to have any bbc retro rollers in stock. I entered both the part # and then the grind # on their website and get the message that there is no such part.
How the heck do you buy cams that don't exist ?? LOL. Well, duh, just saw you wrote it is not in their online catalog... ![]()

One stop,
Curious what made you go with Erson cams? I know you had used Comp cams in the past. I’m in the middle of a L89 rebuild and am trying to decide who to go with for my roller cam. Also curious on the internal components of your engine. I know the external parts are original for stock factory appearance but are you using aftermarket rods, crank, etc? I have a beautiful set of original GM dimple rods that I had planned on using but my engine guy has discouraged me from using them and recommended aftermarket rods. Thanks |
