And all efforts to reach his family members and buy out his inventory have gone cold.

Thanks Dan and Rick - that's a bummer - sorry to hear.
I recently switched over my painted steel wheels & dog dish caps to a set of the 15" SS wheels I ran several years ago and after a 65 mile road trip last weekend realized I have the same problem with the acorn cap lug nuts. I thought I had a squeaky trim ring clip and it was really the wheel moving around due to unseated lug nuts..........looks like I'll be calling Inline Tube. Thanks to the sYc board for being able to search out an old topic and find a solution. |

Do you need enough for just one wheel? I have 5 of the 12387947 ones left, new in the package.

Thanks Tony but I am going to play it safe and replace all 20 of them. That way they will all match as well. Appreciate the offer!

As a follow up on this I received the Inline Tube lug nuts over the weekend and installed them. Problem solved. They don't look bad on the car either.
Originals on left, Inline Tube on right for both comparison pictures. 3rd picture is Inline Tube ones installed. |

Sort of a repeat of what someone else said.....but this is what I did also.....
My original SS Wheels had been enlarged some over the years so the original smaller style lugs would not work. So I searched and searched and ended up going to a Chevy dealership and they had some in stock that looked exactly like the originals but with a little more meat on them. Worked perfect and look great. This was about 4 years ago when I redid my wheels so hopefully the dealers still carry them. They were kind of pricey from what I remember.

The stainless capped ones shown as "originals" are the low crown 74 up lug nut... (the first mention I have found them is in the Spring of 1973 with the turbine wheel parts list in the Camaro Assembly manual -the wheel I believe was actually introduced in 1974.)
The inline tube lugs are closer (in appearance - not at all technically) to the original GM open faced lug nuts than any of the capped ones which are currently available. Chuck's photo illustrates the difference - I have researched the correct lugs extensively as I have been tinkering with reproducing them (original tall crown crimped on stainless caps) and have submitted the technical drawings and specs to a couple of manufacturers in the last few months for quotes so we shall see...
