Re: 1970 LS6 Chevelle "Pilot Car"
Theres another one of those pilot cars in Mass not much more that 8 miles from the dealership noted on the above POP. LS6 Convertible to boot. Been sitting in a friend of my Brothers garage for the past 20 years of so. He picked it up at the peak of the gas crisis in 76 for a song. The thing is loaded with just about every option one could put on a car. It was blue with white stripes and a black interior, and was some kind of demonstrator used by dealerships in the area to show people what could be ordered on the car. My understanding is that the owner has a stack of original paperwork for the car and that it is a VERY early build car. I haven't actually seen it for years as the owner doesn't drive it anymore.

Re: 1970 LS6 Chevelle "Pilot Car"
I'd love to see the Mattison letter if you'd post it. I bet many would enjoy the history education.

Re: 1970 LS6 Chevelle "Pilot Car"
Very interesting post--the matter of pilot cars is certainly not heavily discussed.

"that they had hand built engines.."
Maybe that is what the pin punch stamped "P" is on the front of the cylinder head. Any chance you could post a picture of that? Rick |
