Default Re: New Camaro. The dealers are on crack.

Some of these guys just don't get it, and probably never will. A few years back (pre-financial crisis) I was in the market for a new truck. I had a good idea of what I wanted, didn't see it on the lot and didn't want to settle for less. Here is just a sample of my experience:

1. A local Chevy dealer had a sign in front of the dealership stating "If you don't see what you want, we will get it for you". I walked in the front door HOLDING MY CHECKBOOK AND A PEN. A salesman walked up and asked if he could help me. I told him what I was looking for, I did not see it on his lot and asked if he could get if for me. He said "Sorry, it's the end of the model year" and walked away leaving me standing in the middle of the showroom. I left.

2. I called another local Chevy dealer one morning and told him I would like to come in that evening to order a new truck. We set up an appointment for that evening. It then snowed about four inches that afternoon. I showed up at the dealership at the appointed time that evening and found the dealership closed. I called the salesman the next morning. He told me that the sales manager closed the dealership the night before and took all the sales staff skiing. I didn't go back.

3. My uncle was looking for a new truck at the same time. He called yet another Chevy dealer and set up an appointment over his lunch hour. He showed up for the appointment and asked the receptionist to let the salesman know he was there for his appointment. The receptionist stated that the salesman asked her to tell him that he went to get a haircut and told him he could come back later if he wished. He did not.

Should it really be that difficult to by a new truck?

Same type of deal when I walked into my local Buick store to buy a new 86 Buick Turbo Regal. I knew exactly what I wanted, even had all the option numbers, but the sales people tried to sell me everything but what I wanted. I suggested they call their zone manager and have the car special ordered,

but their final words were, "if we cant order it on our computer, you can't get it". I was sooooo honked off after wasting 1 1/2 hours on my lunch hour, I never did buy one.....

Servco Pacific who sell Toyota and Chevys here in Waipahu told me last weekend that THEY DO NOT add any dealer markups and would sell at sticker. Salesman said that was for the 2010 Camaro as well. Other dealers have for years added between $3K to $15K on their cars as a Hawaii Market Adjustment. I have seen the 15K markup on Vettes??
Wonder if you can still order a Heater Delete Camaro here in Hawaii like you could back in 67/8/9

I was looking for a Crewcab truck for the wife since her Honda Civic was stolen 3 weeks ago and she now wants a 4 door truck. A nicely loaded Silverado LT will run about 33K while a nicely loaded Toyota Tacoma D Cab would run about 26K

Might still make the trip to the mainland and see what I can find. Wish GM would release what dealerships they are going to do away with, they have to have some inventory they need to sell

Saw a silver one at Wilton Chevrolet (CT) yesterday. Didn't stop to look. The additional markup won't last long. My local Dodge dealer has a bunch of Challengers just sitting. I would think that is indicative of the demand for the Camaro (after initial puchases are made).

New car sales are at an all time low, however, lets "dealer markup" the new Camaro in an effort to show they want to turn profits.

[/ QUOTE ]

Well they are in business to do that. Why should a businessman take less money than he can get for something? Nobody sells anything around here for less than they can get. If Camaros don't sell then they'll lower the price--slowly and in small increments--until they do.

[/ QUOTE ]

Why ? Well lets see. GM ( Government Motors ) is on the verge of going out of business. As I said before they have already been through this with the 04 GTO. Right now interest is high. Build a [censored] load sell for just under sticker make a good profit and make the customer happy. You sound like you work for GM. Th ats yesterdays thinking.

I think dealers are trying to hold gross on the one's built before the shutdown. It might have worked if they weren't so fugly.

Let's face it, there cars (Chally, Camaro etc.) are not practical in anyway, in a time when practical seems to be dominatiing everything in your life, and they have the nuts to gouge the pricing. You think the guy that sells 50' boats is looking to sell over MSRP right now.? He'll take a box of crackers, some old lottery tickets and anything else you have just to get it off his lot. Like everything else, wait a few months and you will be in the drivers seat bargaining wise

Just got back from my local dealer (Hoselton in Fairport NY) where they were delivering a red SS. Of course I couldn't drive it. Looks better in person but I couldn't get all over it because the owner was taking it.

Our local dealer is having an all Camaro car show June 7th and will have a 2010 Camaro or two to test drive.
