Newport Dragstrip is located on a portion of an old WWII airstrip just outside of Newport, AR, a few miles Southwest of Jonesboro and Northeast of Little Rock. Besides the drag strip, there remains one landing strip, and the local college and State of AR use the former hanger area (pits on raceday) for a truck drving school and for CDL licensing. The state just repaved the hanger area, which makes that part really nice.

Since I was racing, and crewing for two JRs, the wife was in charge of pics, but forgot the camera.

Anyway, the first race, Drew (11) got Devin (13) off the line but I missed with Drew's dial in, so Devin ran him down, winning by .003. The next two Drew redlight, so he was kind of bummed. They are tied up this weekend, but with cooler weather here, plans are to get several more races in.

That evening was the index racing, I entered the Deuce in the .700 class, but she was running really good, so I was trying to kill 2 tenths. I went a couple of rounds, but lost when I broke out by .002. They then did a bracket race. Jamie Jarvis was there hanging out with us, he said dial it low and go for it, so I dialed a 6.75, lower then I had ever been and broke out with a personel best of a 6.731. On that pass I broke the trans, so I was done for the weekend.

Monday I got on the phone with a trans shop and was able to get them to put a rush on fixing my trans, as we were leaving for SCR15 on Friday. We got the Deuce together Thursday afternoon, everything seemed to be working as they should.

At RT66 the Deuce started off with a 10.90, then went a couple of mid 10.80s and finished the night with a 10:80 at 119.

At RT66 Rob was behind the wheel of Red Alert for the first time, so he made a couple of easy passes, well not too easy, as the first pass he did not get the slicks warm, thus was pretty much all over the track. I believe the second one was a 11.10 or so. Because of a leaking waterpump gasket, Rob was able to make any more passes.

Spent the afternoone at Newport with the Deuce, met this cool Camaro (runs 5.70s) in the Super-Pro finals. He got me a little off the tree, but the Deuce ran a 6.86 on a 6.85 dial, which caused him to breakout as he tried to run me down.
