Could someone educate me as to why some had a chrome air cleaner lid and some had a black one? Was it the SS option?

Verne,
IMO...OP wanted to know how to properly detail a 1969 era 350/300 and there are multiple prospectives introduced in an attempt to assist and answer his question, they are: Bright accent vs non bright accents. SS with cowl induction equipment vs standard hood equipment Tonawanda engine Mfg assembly detail vs Flint engine Mfg assembly detail. Images supplied from both Camaro and Nova. So yea it looks a bit confusing... the long and the short of it is that the engine was mostly painted orange the primary differences being the amount of over spray and assembly order differences between both engine manufacturing plants. |

My question was: Why do some have a chrome air cleaner lid and others (like mine) have a black lid? That has nothing to do with the engine plant. Was that an owner added detail, or were certain models treated differently? Verne |

I believe that was the trigger for the chrome lid, Verne. The L48 in a 69 Chevelle or 69 Impala came with a black lid, while the same engine in a Nova or Camaro (both only available with that engine in the SS version) had the chrome lid. Not sure about the 69 Corvette with L48

Thanks for answering my question Bill. There isn't a trace of chrome anywhere on the 350 in my ELC. (it's the original engine)
