So, was '68 the last year for the L-79? Was the hottest small block in '69 in the A-bodies the 350/300?

I had a black/black hardtop '68 L79 car that would give ANY 396-350 car a run. I know that's not saying much, but damm impressive non-the-less. I miss that car, stolen 10/73, never seen again. It had a roll top tach too.

I was wondering when you'd show up, Marks! I don't know if it would have the "spunk" that your W-31 has, but that L-79 in that big body would definitely suprise a few people...

Was the L79 still a solid-lifter engine in '68? I noticed the lower 325hp rating vs. the 350hp rating from the '66 L79 and was wondering if that was due to a cam change or what.
This IS a verrrry cool car. Belted redlines and dog-dish caps really do it for me, especially on a dark color car such as this one. I can just see the tire smoke billowing from those babies and the WAAAAAAAA sound of that motor. ![]() |

Having had one, I never did figure out the 25hp difference myself. The Nova had the ram horn exh. manifolds, but those aren't but about 5-10 hp, if that. Same 151 hyd cam, pistons, crank, heads... yada... as the L79 Vette or L79 Nova had. Maybe it was the carb, mine was a Carter, if I remember right.. Mine also had the HD clutch code, M20 and 3.73 gears, buckets, no console, chrome lower trim option, sharp car.

I believe the Corvette had the 350-350 HP that year as well.

The L-79 had a hydraulic cam. 68 was the last year it was offered.

Beautiful & rare car. I love the stripped down versions built for business.
Oh, if your throwing away that annoying smog system give me a shout ![]() ![]()
