Need to know ASAP the value of a Cherry 62 bubble top Belair. Dual quad, 4 speed, 4.11 posi 409 I'm thinking of buying it & don't know what its worth. I'm assuming that its a clone. But done so well that it's hard to tell. Production numbers would also be helpful this car is a 10.

<font color="blue">I know 2 people with 409 clones like that.
One paid $28,000 the other paid $30,000. Both beautiful cars & well worth it. GOOD LUCK ![]()

Is it turqoise ?? You will not find a truly perfectly restored car for 30k IMO...I have seen a very high quality car in the upper 40's as recenly as a few weeks ago...either way...you get what you pay for...lets see some pics

------Out that way, Im wondering if its Jim Mattisons old 09er. It was a red bubble. It went to Cal., and the last I heard he was trying to get it back. Seems to me price would have been somewhat higher than those mentioned, tho, as it was a spectacular example (not that those mentioned arent)............Bill S

This is a Roman Red/Red frame off car.To be honest I'm trying to save this piece of history from the present owner who wants to cut the floor tunnel to install a five speed. trans, power steering,& some other incorrect things to this beautiful 09.I', thinking that the car is worth about $40-50,000 range.I wonder how many of these were built in 62? & yes I'm located in Calif.

I posted pics of a red/red 62 BT 409 dual quad car some time back. It sold and went to CA i think. Does it have radio/heater/door lock delete by chance. If so it might be the same car that was here and that Boyd did the resto on a few years back.

I'm really having a time of this makeing up my mind.I only wish I could determain the correct value.I own an auto repair business & right now its parked in my shop & tempting the hell out of me. I feel like the character in that movie Christene.Who gets possesed by a car. But in this cae its a red Chevy not a Plymouth LOL.Anyway I need to find out all I can about it before I decide marry this thing.Regards Lou

Turblou,
Some comments. First, power steering would not be incorrect on a '62 409, regardless of body style. How many were originally made? A hell of a lot less than exist today. Just because you've found a red/red one, don't think it must be a match to another known one. Most of them today are red/red. And if it has a Z-11 top half on it, you should immediately add $25K to it's value, even though Chevrolet factory produced ZERO of them in '62. If you care whether it's real or not before you empty your pockets, ask for paper work or photos BEFORE restoration. Unfortunately, where '62 409s are concerned, if it doesn't have it's original block with original VIN and broach marks, there is absolutely NOTHING on a fully restored one to verify it's legit. You'd need a build sheet, original paperwork, or pre-restoration photos. So, if it's already something it never was, saving it from a 5-speed isn't necessarily such a noble cause. Just trying to calm you down a little and give you a few things to think about before you make a move you might regret later. Make sure you know what you really want, and what you're willing to pay for what you think you're really getting. ![]() Verne. |
