Thanks Alec. I guess this really is my original spare. My car is 08A.

BTW, is there a site with the goodyear date codes?

Thanks again. Car guys really are the best.

Charley:
I'm almost certain that is 1972. They were not making the Wide Tread GT or the Polyglas in '82 (at least in the small white letters). I bought an NOS F70-14 Polyglas in about 1979 (still have the receipt) from a local Goodyear store by luck. They checked other Iowa stores to find inventory since it was discontinued and none was found.

Charlie / Lynn,
Do those 69 tires have DOT on the firewall?

I have a Goodyear with Nylon and DOT, date is JS05B74.
Alec, can you decode this one too?

Thanks!

Hi Kurt:

I assume you mean "sidewall" instead of firewall. Guess you answer so many questions about trim tags on firewalls, that your fingers just went to the "firewall" keys.

Yes, mine has DOT on the sidewall. I know some guys have said that none of the original nylon cord tires have DOT on the sidewall, but I think that they started in 1969, possibly in preparation for the 70 model year. Jerry McNiesh might know as he said something about bonus points being awarded for original nylon cord tires.

Mark (camaromb) you stated:

Your tire date is:
J- 1969
S- April
05- Gadsen Plant
Source: Greg Kwiatkowski, Daimler/Chrysler

Mark

How can J = 1969 for Kurt, when Alec says U = 1969? See the post above. I am not arguing, only seeking clarification. At first I thought maybe different plants used different date codes, but apparently both Kurt's and mine were from the Gadsen plant.

My tire was in the trunk when I bought the car in 1976. My brother bought the car in 1975, and he did not buy any tires for it. It had mismatched tires on the ground, and only 1 YH ralley wheel on the ground, so I have a hard time believing someone would have bought a correct replacement tire for the spare when the ones on the ground weren't wide tread GT's. Although my car only had about 25 or 26000 miles on it, it was "rode hard and put up wet" on a regular basis, with no thought for originality, i.e. aftermarket manifold and carb, accell ignition, wrong heads, headers, no smog etc.

Anyone who can point us to some definitive literature on the early nylon Wide Tread GT's would be a hero, , at least for 15 min.

Alec says F = May

Jonesy says F = December

Alec says U = 69

Mark says J = 69

I think the only thing everyone agrees on is that:

O = Gadsen plant.

Surely there is a definitive source on this stuff. Does the Goodyear website offer any help?

Anyone have the judging manual for Camaros? I would assume it they give bonus points for original Nylon cord tires, there is some way to determine originality other than the word "Nylon" on the sidewall. Do any of the reproductions have Nylon on the sidewall?

I am going to check out Goodyear. Will let you know if I find anything.
