Great shots Norm!.
Considering Grumps Vega is a '74, it must be a bit later than the other pics?. We were all a lot cooler then...man, what a world those good ol' days!. Thanks for sharing!. ~ Pete

Great photos! Thanks for sharing. I am trying to put together the histories of all of the 1968 Hemi Darts & Barracudas and this Wildfire Dart has got me stumped! I have other photos of the car but so far I do not know whose car this was? Does anyone remember this car or who owned it?
Thanks, Mark Janaky 1968 Hemi Super Stock Registry Looking for photos, histories and any information on these cars |

Hey Mark,
Interesting project you have there. Don't know this car. Looks to be an automatic and at the time of the photo (Mar 72?) it doesn't look like it had any sponsorship markings on it. What kind of numbers do you have so far (Darts/Barracudas) in your registry? What are the current accepted total production of each? Good luck!

Hey Mark I blew up the photos of wild fire the only other markings on it was the class SS/AA witch I think meant super stock /Automatic there is no name on it the picture was dated March 1972 down at Acto
Here is a photo of wild fire engine ![]() src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v511/stingray66/img109.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a> |

Whoever it was, he stole the name Wildfire from Mr. Ronnie Evans who was running a '62 Impala with the same name since '65. And BTW, his current Wildfire car just turned a 10.04 in heat.

A friend and I have been at this for about 6-7 years now e have accumulated quite a bit of info. As for the original production run I would say 73ish Cudas and 82ish Darts - so far I have found no info with actual production numbers. Here is a photo of the Wildfire Dart from a track in MI (I have seen 3 photos of this car from MI tracks from 68-9). This appears to be 68 or early 69 as the car is still has steel wheels and is running SS/BA (where they were originally classed by the NHRA) and note that it has decals and what appears to be possibly a dealer sponsorship on the rear quarter. I have seen other photos from Cecil County from later that only have the Wildfire on the car. I am guessing that the the car originally was from MI and then sold to someone in the NE. The second owner probably removed the lettering & decals and raced it which was not uncommon at the time.
Thanks, Mark Janaky 68 Hemi S/S Registry [email protected] |
