The book Chevy Super Sports 1961-1976 by Terry V.Boyce says:In mid year of 1966 the L-79 was available as an option for the Malibu and SS Chevelle. Then it go's on and says that it was possible to approimate an SS-style car with the 327 350hp L-79.Then it says; There is no way to determine how many of these RPO L-79's were built;they are not listed in the 1966 option production book.So it was available in the 1966 Chevelle.

The book was written more than 20 years ago. I think we know more now than we knew back then. I'm not saying it's true, but I would be careful quoting from something so old . . . and that's with all due respect to Terry, whom I know. (He's into Buicks now.)

We never did get one to operate off the end of the Final Line - each one was pushed off the line onto a hoist

I spent 30 years in Western New York. I've shoveled snow and walked to school in it. Then I woke up and realized snow sucks and putting my car in storage for 6 months every year sucked too. It's funny how the sun, beach and babes can sway you. Having a job offer helped a little too.
