Yes indeed. An evolving description of a car’s formal sale detail is rather unique as in that once submittal has happened it usually does not Change. But with that said I hope the buyer is very happy with his new acquisition. |

Would the engine installed by Motion, have been coded for a car or have been a "CE," engine?
I believe the "ID" code is for a 427/425 in a big car...correct? I was always under the impression the engines were bought through Baldwin and would have been "over the counter," engines. Just asking to learn |

Correct.
The 425 HP L-71 and L-72 part numbers typically have specified by Motion were: 3919907 L-71 3919837 L-72 The back cover accurately dates the publication of origin. |

We've seen a passenger high performance coded engine in another Motion Camaro. Remember - many of these cars started out as small blocks. So, they needed a complete long block for conversion.

Other than the CE Suffix ‘57 Production 265’s, didn’t long-block CE’s sold over counter first appear sometime in ‘68 and Assembly Suffix engines like ‘ID’ L72’s as above example what was supplied before then, often later too? Obviously, many specific Assembly engines sold over counter are much in demand today w/ Factory Build/Suffix Stampings and NO VIN, especially certain dates. To clarify, ‘68 and later CE’s sold over counter = Chevrolet Engine, NOT Counter Exchange or Counter Engine etc. ~ Pete .

The description change done was with respect to cowl tag date and mileage only. You are limited in the number of words you can include.

No offense but without a partial vin or a pop, paperwork etc it’s hard to make a comment like that as gospel. If there is docs or anything of that nature I won’t say another word but to date nothing has been presented. Not crapping on the car either. Just voicing an opinion. |

It has a BB heater box from looking at the pictures. I'd suspect it was originally a L78 car based on the rear gear...but easiest way to tell would be the fuel line.
I love the car! Just surprised after thinking about it that it has a big car L72 in it...when I always thought the over-the-counter engines would not have had a production line suffix code for the engine. I guess I'm just curious if this is common when long block engines were replaced say under warranty. If not where did Motion get their engines from then? Wouldn't those part numbers for engines referenced in an earlier post be "CE" coded? |

One of the key features that made the BM program a financial success was selling the takeout 396-375 hp short block from the converted cars. These short blocks were sold through the Baldwin parts department. Joel himself discussed this at one of the SCR's that I attended.
The majority of BM cars pre 1970 were factory BB, but certainly some SB cars were converted, but those would be in the minority. |
