I know what you mean. People do become brand loyal. While owning a CNC Machine shop years back I visited another shop back east. The owner had at least 50 CNC's all the same manufacturer. I asked him about it and he said that he used to own brand "x" but when something came up he did not like he sold them all off and bought all new of the other manufactures machines. Come to think of it he was doing business for the big 3. I wonder if he is still in business??
[ QUOTE ] I understand that the Fed kinda has GM by the short & curlys here, but I think it's lost on a lot of folks in management exactly how influential a performance model can be on future same-brand purchases. A perfect example is a local friend of mine here...he knew of strictly nothing other than Chevrolet his entire life, as his family bought & drove nothing new GM's, until he became disenchanted with the lack of development by GM on the F-bodies [he'd owned several over the years], but FoMoCo was still cranking them out year after year, so he decided to try a Mustang...well, not long after that, guess what he got for his wife...yep, a crew cab Ford truck. He completely jumped ship, all because of simple continued support for their *affordable* peformance model...and it's trickled over into his family as well...all because of a single purchase [or lack thereof]. [/ QUOTE ]

[/ QUOTE ] Rob, What bothers me is the fact that some of the same people that stood by at GM while the Camaro failed - are still there- seemingly now attempting to take part of the credit for the "revival" of the car and have created a cult like following around a kind of "keep the faith" myth. Some history first hand: Jim Perkins was run off the reservation by GM for trying to save the Camaro and Chevy performance in general in the late 1990's when the Camaro "Kill" decision was made. He told me so, "They Killed Camaro to make Trucks" and it is a fact- the SSR soon appeared as the replacement. Obviously Market forces caused the car's return and simply put the sucess of the Mustang and the Challanger paved the way for Camaro's production approval, but the car is now late coming to market and the timing is not optimal. You are very right...lots of people changed Brand Loyalty after 2002 and purchased other vehicle brands because of that single misguided GM decision. How true Rob. You nailed it. ![]() |

From the GM newsline, it sounds like some things have been put on hold and current products will continue through their lifecycle. Thanks alot Nancy Pelosi, you Prius driving San Francisco Liberal.
"High Performance Vehicle Operations Put on Hold Due to a refined focus of work on core products, operations at GM High Performance Vehicle Operations have been put on hold indefinitely. Successful vehicles produced in the past by High Performance Vehicle Operations include the Chevrolet SS Cobalt and HHR, and the Cadillac CTS V, which will continue to be produced through their normal life cycle. Vehicles including the Pontiac GXP models, Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and ZR1, and the soon-to-be-released Chevrolet Camaro SS, which are produced outside of GMHPVO, are not affected and will continue to be available through their product life cycle. It looks like if you want a Camaro that can hang with the New Shelby's their is only one place and one place only that will deliver such a car and that is Nickey Chicago.
Thats right in this generation's muscle car pony wars, GM and its mighty performance icon the Camaro have only one hope resting squarely on the shoulders of one Stefano Bimbi. The great white hope for the vaunted Camaro and its legendary history of ZL-1s and COPOs comes down to little Nickey Chicago. Meanwhile Ford simply continues to dominate this generations pony car muscle car wars with the new 540 HP GT 500 not to mention Shelby's post title stable of super Mustangs the 600 HP Supersnake, the 725 HP Supersnake and the new 800 HP Don Prudhomme edition Shelby street legal drag car. Dodge steps up with the 425 HP Challenger and GM hopes someday to be able to deliver some Camaro's to Stefano for conversion into Nickey Camaro's. |

Hold on, let's not forget Lingenfelter. They recently announced their Camaro performance packages and they are quite impressive in their own right. You can Google them for more information. They are actually produced IN-HOUSE at Lingenfelter and everybody knows when you want your Corvette done by the best, that's where it goes.

If it were me, I would order a black one and have red stripes painted on at a reputable paint shop, and have a lingenfelter installed. I had a friend order a new black 95 vette and took his original engine out, and had a lingenfelter complete engine installed and he beat the crap out of the car driving it to work (including lunchtime antics), and he raced it on the weekends at various tracks (for years). That engine never broke. They have been doing this for a long time and have a store front.
my 2 cents and under 20k upgrade you probably could not break. http://www.lingenfelter.com/mm5/merchant...tegory_Code=C56 |
