I'm glad they gave the team the green light to end this

[/ QUOTE ]

That would be President Obama who gave the green light. Nice to see it end successfully.

[/ QUOTE ]

I am sure if the rescue would have gone "south" someone from the fleet would have been on record as having ordered the mission.

[/ QUOTE ]

No, "someone from the fleet" does not have the authority to give the order to use deadly force in a situation like this. That has to come from the president, period. (If the pirates fired upon the U.S. Navy ship or on the seal team then they can shoot back--to kill, of course, and they could then rightly claim self-defense.) If this had gone badly it would have rightly been placed at Obama's feet. He has already gone on record as saying the "buck" stops with him so I take him at his word. Believe me, I am fully aware that had this gone "south" Obama's political opposition would scream for his impeachment--we'd never hear the end of it.

I'm waiting to hear the dead pirates being called "victims" and Obama criticized for using "too much force." I'll bet that's gonna' happen.

[/ QUOTE ]

Oh yea I get it "Mr President this is seal team leader #1 here" the pirate just popped his head up" Can I take a Shot? That is how the media kind of portrays the action...

No that is not how it works. The President gave permission for the operation up to and including the use of deadly force. The Navy took care of the rest, and I highly doubt the blame would have been placed on the President if the operation would have gone wrong. Obviously since the Navy was taking the force action the Navy would have taken the blame.

If the SEALS missed the shots for whatever reason who else would there be to blame??

Giving the president the 100% credit for the planning, bravery and training of our SEALS and the Fleet personnel is a bit much don't you think?

A decision that could have been made days earlier. I view it as an Easter publicity stunt.

"The President gave permission for the operation up to and including the use of deadly force."

That's all I said in the first place but, as usual, the point gets twisted and warped into something else. The president gives the green light to use deadly force and then the on-scene commanders carry out the mission as they see fit.

"If the SEALS missed the shots for whatever reason who else would there be to blame??"

The president and he alone. He gave the order to use deadly force and the buck stops with him.

"Giving the president the 100% credit for the planning, bravery and training of our SEALS and the Fleet personnel is a bit much don't you think?"

Who said that? I don't see where anyone gave Obama 100% of the credit for anything other than authorizing the action taken. But, I'll go back and re-read the thread--maybe I missed where someone said Obama deserves 100% of the credit.

"A decision that could have been made days earlier. I view it as an Easter publicity stunt."

Pretty cynical take on a successful rescue of an American hostage. Kind of belittles the herosim of the SEAL snipers who performed perfectly.

I agree with you 100% Phil. BO will surely try and take ALL the credit though.

[/ QUOTE ]

BO has barely said a word about it.

Let's hope he doesn't tell the pirates to "bring it on" or that we're going to get them "dead or alive." I suppose "The Global War on Pirates" would follow.

As far as Obama having anything heroic to do with this....

[/ QUOTE ]

Who said that? Wait, I'll go back and re-read the thread.

This thread is turning political and partisan. Lets just be thankful that Captain Richard Phillips is now free and alive & well.
