Default Re: My son got his first car today, 69 Nova

I got my first car when I was 14. I bought a 69 Indy Pace Car Camaro with a 1964 327 in it. My dad helped me buy it. We got it home and my mom yelled at him: "YOU KNOW HE's 14 AND HIS BROTHER IS THE ONE THAT JUST TURNED 16!"

It seems that he forgot which kid was which at the time. (being one of 5 kids, I can only imagine the confusion he must have had to deal with).

I have been playing with cars ever since. He did eventually help my brother get a Daytona Yellow 1969 SS396/375 4-speed Camaro which was much cooler than my car.

I know the feeling. I found a '70 Nova "little old lady car" that sat in her garage for many years and bought it for my son's first car. Typical plain 307 auto with low mileage. We spent a lot of time getting rid of the mildew and mouse smells in it, but it was good enough for his first real "date" for his high school prom. He loved that car!

Steve, that's a great story, made me laugh. It seems a little silly to buy a 10 year old a car but I know the time we will spend doing it will be priceless and the memories for both of us will never be forgotten.

That's a great looking Nova, does he still have it? It appears to be a very nice, can't beat clean and original cars.

I almost got Notstock plates for my Nova but came across mint unissued plates from 71 and to get the number 1-Y71 was mind blowing. The 1 is the county which is Douglas where we live and to get 71 in the sequence sealed the deal. Nebraska will reissue the original plates to cars and its a 1 time only registration fee, no annual renewal. I will find another set of mint 1 county plates from 69 to issue to Zachs car. I also like the nostalgia of the old plates.

Never too early to start. My daughter rebuilt the 455HO in my 72 Trans Am when she was 9 and in third grade. My son (who is 12 now) is currently building his second engine. He rebuilt the 350 in his Great Grandmother's 75 Firebird when he was 11. Now he has graduated to the 455HO engine from his Great Grandmother's Grandson's Formula (mine). I've seen those posts, the hood is sold. I figure step 1 will be the quarters. The guy selling those also has a similar ad for Chevelle parts, pretty much the same ad. I'm not sure where he is located though, his prefix isn't Omaha. The quarters are priced each, I was hoping really hoping that was a pair.

Not too silly - I did it twice!

Ben got his '69 Nova SS when he was 1 year old - so I'm wishing you lots of moments like these But beware, time FLIES!

Danny got his '67 Camaro RS when he was 1 year old, he's already 5 and we've not even touched his car yet
