Verne, IMO....Bill is right on the SS being the key.
The bright accent issue has popped up repeatedly over the years and Chevtolet's own advertising from the period does nothing to settle the issue for many however. I would blame dealers for some of the confusion. Cross flag aluminum covers were cheap and so were chrome lids to dress a car for sale. |

Hi Verne - I've discovered a few interesting things in the 1969 Chevrolet Sales Album regarding the "bright accents" and different engines and models. Since you asked specifically here about the Chevelle, this is from the sales album.I know the sales album is certainly not the bible of what was actually produced, but it is a guide for what a buyer was told they would receive...

Thank you
That info confirms my air cleaner would be a std all black. Now, if you add the SS option, things probably change. Not to change the subject of the thread, but I wonder if the suspension items mentioned might be different on the ELC since it was officially in the truck line? Verne |

Verne </div></div> Hi Verne - my apologies because I thought you were asking about the Chevelle. First, I don't think the bright engine options were directly related to the SS option, it appears the bright engine accents were related to engine size and model. Somewhat analogous but not the same. If ELC means El Camino, I have a section for this but it is only the Aug sales promotion material without the details of options, and yes its in the very sparse section of the binder labeled "Trucks".

For those interested in the bright engine accents debate, I started a thread in CRG.

Attached are images from three separate 1969 production specification descriptions for the Camaro that all specify "Bright accents" for 350/300...

I think we are agreeing that the L48 had bright accents on the camaro? This attached image is from the Revision Guide to the sales album picture you posted. Note that the chrome oil filler cap is absent...leaving only the chrome air filter lid as the sole piece in an L48 birght accent option. ![]()
