There is always "experts" at car shows and they don't mind telling you what's wrong with your car. I witnessed to guys almost fighting over a comment made about a 1987 GN!

Rick Nelson doesn't own a Yenko Chevelle....I'm sure he wouldn't mind owning one though..

I just wanted to clear up an error i had made on an earlier post,it was no one at the mn get together(team chevelle) that had said my car was a fake, some people had seen pictures of it from there and had starting spreading rumors that it might not be real, and as for the car being for sale,it is not,i am collecting cars and hope to have some very rare ones in the future.I started to wonder when i purchased the yenko what was the popularity next to the camaro?it seems very hard to find a chevelle compared to a camaro, especially one that is untouched. I had planned to do a frame off next year but when i look at this car it is such a rare example of an untouched piece of history, the only things incorrect are some gauges the original owner had put under the dash, does not have the original battery the original tires "(of course) and a hurst shifter, which if he would not have changed that, we all know that it would not have the original motor. This car drives so nice and so tight, it is truly amazing!

Chad, does it have the original exhaust system? There are questions on if the original exhaust used the tail pipe resonator or if it used a tail pipe with no resonator.
Also does it have the original exhaust tips? Some people say they used an exhaust tip with a rolled edge and some say the exhaust tip edge is just a cut edge with no roll or form to it.

We bought our COPO Chevelle new and I can only speak for it. This car was very near the end of the production run. It had the standard reverse flow mufflers and no resonators. It is my understanding that these resonator pipes were only used with the NC8 chambered exhaust. Just try chambered mufflers without resonators and you will know why they were used. Our exhaust tips were not rolled, but the usual angle cut. As a matter of fact we still have the old tips. It would be nice to find out when the rolled tip exhaust extensions were used. Was there any particular plant or time frame where the rolled tips were used? Other than pictures, I have never seen them.

Keith, I agree with you on the exhaust and tips. I believe the rolled tip was only used for a very short time. I am just curious what Chad has on his Chevelle if it has original exhaust. It would be great to go over the car documenting all paint and chalk marks, code tags, etc.
before any restoration work is done. Not many unrestored COPO Chevelles left out there.
Chad what is the build date on trim tag?

Chad,

Sounds like a great car. To Joe's point, It would be a great source of reference for originality and something to document for other restorers. The car is only original once....don't restore it if you don't have to. Just my .02 cents. Good luck with it and enjoy.

By the way, who is Rick Nelson and what services does he offer?

Mike

439 block is out of a late 68 or early 69 427. Either a passenger or Corvette.
