I was gone for 4th of July; I just got back last night. I was checking out the forum and it is so cool that RBodem was one of the owners. Maybe when the guy was giving me his sales pitch he meant 84 instead of 74, we both were looking at the River Grove window sticker dated 1972. Who knows who he bought it from may have told him how long it has been off the road? It’s before the internet really existed; now people can find out his kind of information fairly easily online. After I got the car home I found a trading times from 1981 in the so called battery box. What years did your husband own it; how many years after it was new did he acquire it? Did you live in River Grove; was that your window sticker? Did your husband put the automatic transmission in it? Any more info you have would be greatly appreciated. I had a title search done last week, which was emailed to me over the weekend. Last night I finally got a chance to review the information, it looks like you sold the guy the car in 1987, is that correct? Did your husband race the car at Rockford Drag Way? I want to thank all you guys on this forum who have made it possible for me to find out some past history of this car. The Yenko.net website is great, and the people on this site are usually very friendly and want to help out their fellow car enthusiasts. Reviewing the old pictures of the car this first picture looks like the car is at a car show, seeing what looks like a yellow 1969 Camaro next to it. By any chance was that picture taken at the forest preserve off of Golf in Schaumburg? Thanks again guys for all the help…

I finally told my hubby about the car! He didn't know what to say. lol His heart just dropped it think. He can't believe it was in a barn after all!! He had always joked that it was in a barn and we'd never find it. Did it have any of the parts with it? He believes he bought it around 1978-79. He sold it for a '70 914 Porsche from CA. Ever since he sold it he kicked himself. I can't tell you how much he misses that car. Since we finally gave up the search about 2 yrs. ago I went on EBay and found him a '70 Nova that had the same color as the Chevelle. We picked it up from PA. I will show you pics later. Back to the Chevelle... Ron made the Chevelle what it was. He lived for that car. He built that engine with his 2 hands I believe. We were only dating at the time. He was always "tricking it" out. No, we never lived in River Grove. I'll have to ask Ron (Hubby) if he remembers the purchase from the guy. It's been a while. If memory serves me right I always thought it was stick. Yes, he did race their... 11 twenties was his timing their. The pic is at the forest preserve you mention. And the guy that owns the Camaro still has it, and has not had it out his garage for years. He still says he'll ride it one of these days. lol The pic's are old and discolored. They don't show how mint this car was. Any thought of selling? Ron I think would like to see it at least. It was a real part of his younger years if you know what I mean. We have lots of pics. He raced often. Always trying to beat his times, and another friends car that was called "Flirting with Disaster". That friend no longer has that car but he still races. The guy "Lino" that told us about this lived the street over from us and knows how that car was. It was a REAL MEAN MACHINE!! I'm the computer guru, so Ron will need me to respond to any other questions. I have put his email address on here. I believe I made it public. Oh by the way, we still have the Porsche. Hasn't be out in years. Has a brand new motor sitting on a bench for the last 6 years or so. I'm waiting for him to get to that one. rrrrr I guess his Nova is first priority. He just finished the whole front end (down to the frame) of that car. He goes to a lot of car shows in our area.

I was right on my assumtion of the build plant and based on "L" on the cowl tag it appears to be an SS though that is only speculation at this time. If this car has been unmolested as it appears and based on the build date I would bet there are at least 3 sheets in that car. One in the front seat back (push on the seat back and you may feel it on the drivers side), one in the bottom rear seat and one in the passengers front fender and there may be more as I have found them in other places on Leeds cars as well. It is VERY rare that they are not in these locations on the Leeds cars around that date.

As someone else just asked the same question recently.. why do you think it is we often tell people .. Build Sheets were not intended to be left in cars... and more often than not tossed in the trash.. yet we can also point to certain places were Build Sheets are almost guaranteed to be found? and often are..with some cars/plants. I do the same thing.

I would be more than happy to give Ron a call, if you would like to private message me your phone number I’ll give him a call. When I got the car, the guy said it had a blower on it at one time. He said the blower and heads were taken off before he got the car. The story is he go the car and it just sat, never moved. I recognized in picture of the car, the forest preserve; I used to go there when I was a kid, I think it was called Bussey Woods? The car actually looks good since I cleaned, a few minor dents and dings, all original sheet metal. The interior of the car really looks good, where those plastic seat covers put on by Ron? Also did Ron by parts from Nickey Chevrolet, because I found the business card in there? Looks like it has had a lot of engine work done, the motor looks like it was stamped ACE Machine… Looks like it is somewhere around 500 cubic inches. From what information I have, Ron bought it about 7 years after it was new. Kind of cool, it must have got a pretty good penny for it back in its day with all the work that was done.

I just talked to Ron a little bit ago. He has tons of pictures of when he owned the car and used to hang out at Bussey Woods. He painted the inner fender wells gold and found one of the several build sheets that were on the car. This one was behind the inner fender well; he also assured me that the plastic on the seat covers was there since the day he bought it. The reason he was able to track the car down years ago, was because he was using the vin number off of the build sheet he still has!!! How awesome. It’s all because of this Yenko website, which made it easier to locate owners.

Yes it is called Busse Woods. We hung there a lot. I sent you his number so your questions will be met from him directly. The plastic on the seats where there when he bought it. He never wanted to take them off. Now that I am in the reminising state I will share some pics with you all. I am going to make a page on "Ron's cars". I will leave a link shortly. Renee

He is going to look at it, he can't remember exactly what dealership it was, he thinks it was C and E, but isn't quite sure. He is going to look at and call me since he has my phone number now. I can't wait to see Renee's link, and see all the pictures, maybe she can post a picture of the build sheet they have.
