Congrats on this article, it was one of my favorite HMM issues of all time.

The Hemi and LS6 represented the pinnacles of the 1970 Chrysler and GM Musclecar offerings, and it was great to see them side-by-side. My favorite part of this article (and I don't know why no one thought of this before) was allowing each owner to drive the other owners car to get an honest opinion of ride quality, acceleration, etc. So many times in these Musclecar magazine articles we get a biased opinion on a particular make or model, usually because the owner of the feature car has only owned that type of car, or only owned that manufacturer's cars (Chevy, Dodge, etc.).

It was cool to read an honest opinion of a Mopar guy driving a GM product, and vice-versa.

My main competition was a 70 Hemi-Cuda that had also held the world record for a time in D/SA. A really great guy from West Virginia named Donnie brought it along with a couple of other Mopars. We raced 3 times that weekend and I beat Donnie all 3 times, two out of three on the big end, as my reaction times were abysmal. Donnie could not believe that Red Alert beat him on the big end. He claimed that no LS6 could come from behind and walk a Cuda out the back door. That was with my first &quot;baby&quot; motor (roughly 650hp). Actually, Im not sure what this has to do with the two subject cars but I do love telling the story...........Bill S </div></div>

the original owner of my 4-speed, 4.10, LS6 said he never lost a race to a hemi car - challengers, roadrunners, etc... but tri-power and L88 Vettes would get him every time.

Mike - I really liked this perspective too. Really unique. This is the kind of thing that continues to set HMM apart. A lot of folks won't let others drive their cars so this type of comparison wouldn't even happen.

I've driven LS6s before including my low mile unrestored one too (M22 / 4.56). John's LS6 was sorted very nicely - pulls like a freight train even with his 3.31s out back. The car is pretty and all, but that engine is dialed in very nicely. And did I mention its my favorite color combo?!

BTW Mike - that is a good comment and the editor needs to hear it. I suggest contacting Terry at: tmcgean@hemmings.com

Cool story Bill... Thanks for sharing... I guess I stand corrected.... Hey, you gotta cut me some slack I was in diapers in 1970. That's what I love about talking to you guys that lived these cars back in the day... I can never get enough stories...

P.S. I think I'll bottle the 41 y.o. Mc Creary tire smoke - there could be a market for it! I remember as a kid passing the Mc C plant in Indiana, PA and taking in a nice dose of that &quot;sweet&quot; rubbery air! Sam,

The odor should be similar on smoldering Polyglas as they are being made in the old Mc Creary plant. Keep doing those gone in 10 second shots..... just keep my phone number on speed dial!!!!!!!!

Just picked up my copy. Sitting here with my 10-day old boy, Hudson, looking through it! He keeps putting his hand on the black car. Awesome, stunning pics of two of my favourite cars. You guys are lucky. And the reverse color scheme of the two cars is remarkable to look at.

Sam that's such a gorgeous 'Cuda - you'll have to get the original '450' wheels on it someday as they are little deeper dish than the ones she is wearing now. Was it a Rallye wheel car originally or '450' steelie?
